Toyota revealed images of the Corolla Concept, a prototype previewing the 13th generation of the mid-size sedan, at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo at the end of October 2025. The concept marks a shift from the model’s traditional design, featuring sharper lines and electric elements. The Japanese automaker plans to apply this visual language to future global launches.

The biennial event, held since 1954, attracts over 1 million visitors and showcases automotive innovations. This time, Toyota emphasizes sustainable mobility, with the Corolla as the main highlight.

The sedan has sold over 50 million units since 1966, making it the world’s best-selling car.

  • Key exterior changes: C-shaped headlights with vertical LEDs and pixelated bar.
  • Signs of electrification: charging port on the fender.
  • Approximate dimensions: 4.5 meters long, similar to the current generation.

Modern headlights and taillights redefine visual identity

The Corolla Concept’s front end features C-shaped headlights with vertical LED sections in the bumper and a horizontal pixelated LED bar. This setup evolves the style of Toyota’s bZ electric models.

The hood integrates the main lights in a cutout design, creating a sharper look. The minimal front grille optimizes aerodynamics for hybrid or electric vehicles.

Rear design with connected taillights and functional spoiler

The taillights form a rectangular, interconnected strip with pixelated graphics for nighttime visibility. A ducktail spoiler enhances stability at high speeds.

The rear bumper has sculpted finishes and a centralized license plate. These elements maintain the four-door sedan shape.

The design improves energy efficiency, with an estimated 5% reduction in drag coefficient.

Side profile highlights charging ports and flush handles

From the side, the concept shows enlarged fenders with a charging port, suggesting an electric powertrain. Sculpted side panels optimize airflow.

Flush door handles contribute to a clean design. The 18-inch wheels with low-profile tires enhance performance.

The 2.7-meter wheelbase ensures interior space for five occupants.

The sloping roofline creates a coupe-like silhouette, distinct from the current model.

Corolla family expands with SUV and new coupe

The Corolla Cross SUV will adopt the same design language in its second generation, confirmed by Toyota for global development. The current model, a sales leader in Brazil, achieves 17.8 km/L in city driving with a flex hybrid engine.

A coupe SUV, set for a 2028 debut, will feature sportier lines on the TNGA platform. Measuring around 4.6 meters, it will use a 122-hp flex hybrid system.

Toyota plans plug-in hybrid options for Brazil, offering up to 70 km of electric range. The coupe strengthens Toyota’s SUV lineup, competing with models like the Jeep Compass.

Powertrain options include hybrid and full electric

The concept suggests an electric powertrain with a lithium-ion battery and front- or all-wheel drive. Production models may offer hybrid variants, like the current 1.8 flex with 122 hp.

Gasoline 2.0-liter engines deliver 175 hp on ethanol. Average fuel efficiency reaches 14 km/L on highways.

In Brazil, the pioneering flex hybrid avoids IPVA tax in states like São Paulo.

Interior focuses on advanced connectivity

The cabin features a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, similar to the Prius. The Toyota Play 2.0 multimedia system supports wireless smartphone mirroring.

USB-C ports and dual-zone climate control equip premium versions. Synthetic leather seats ensure family comfort.

The Toyota Safety Sense package includes automatic braking and lane assist, reducing accidents by 30%, per global tests.
