BYD registers with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) the facelift of the Dolphin, scheduled to debut in Brazil in 2026 as the 2027 line. The electric hatch, sales leader since 2023, receives updates to compete with the recently launched Geely EX2, which starts at R$ 119,990. The Chinese automaker seeks to maintain dominance in the compact electric segment, where the Dolphin has sold more than 50,000 units in the country by October 2025.
The current model, with a design unchanged since launch, gains reinforcements in terms of appearance, dimensions and technology to attract urban consumers.
- Main rivals: Geely EX2 (range of 289 km Inmetro) and Renault Kwid E-Tech (hybrid under R$100,000).
- Sales in China: Dolphin facelift sold 176 thousand units in 2024, but lost ground to the EX2.
- Local production: Hybrid flex version should be assembled in Camaçari (BA) from 2027.
Renewed look increases presence in the segment
The front of the BYD Dolphin 2027 features a higher hood and sporty bumper, with elongated headlights that give the hatch a dynamic look. 16- or 17-inch wheels have been redesigned, taking inspiration from models like the Chevrolet Bolt EUV.
These changes aim to differentiate the vehicle in a saturated market, where the Geely EX2 already highlights a refined finish and 375-liter trunk.

Enlarged dimensions optimize internal space
The length goes from 4.12 m to 4.28 m, with a width of 1.77 m and a height of 1.57 m, maintaining a wheelbase of 2.70 m. This 16 cm extension improves crash protection and increases usable volume.
The rear gets a creased bumper and lights with updated internal elements, as well as a “BYD” emblem centered on the trunk lid.
The growth places the Dolphin closer to premium compacts, surpassing the EX2 in wheelbase by 5 cm.
These measures were validated in tests in China, where the model meets adapted European safety standards.
Cabin gains functionality and connectivity
The interior abandons the 12.8-inch rotating multimedia screen for a fixed horizontal layout, with 5G support for remote updates. The instrument panel grows to 8.8 inches, displaying real-time data.
Redesigned seats prioritize ergonomics, while the center console incorporates physical buttons and a closed drawer for storage. The gear lever migrates behind the steering wheel, freeing up space on the floor.
- Customizable ambient lighting in multiple colors.
- Highest power wireless charger for smartphones.
- Premium synthetic leather linings for better durability.
Engine options diversify offerings
The entry-level version maintains 95 hp and 18.3 kgfm of torque, with a 45.1 kWh battery and a range of up to 420 km (CLTC). The top of the line delivers 204 hp and 31.5 kgfm, also with 60.5 kWh.
New intermediate appears with 177 hp and 29.5 kgfm, using the larger battery to balance performance and efficiency. Fast recharging from 30% to 80% takes 25 minutes at DC stations.
BYD’s Flash Charging system speeds up the process by 30%, compatible with the planned national network of 800 superchargers.
Compared to the Geely EX2 (116 hp and 289 km Inmetro), the intermediate Dolphin offers more torque for urban acceleration.
Security suite incorporates advanced ADAS
The “God’s Eye” suite includes 12 cameras and five ultrasonic radars, supporting semi-autonomous driving on highways. Lane keeping, collision and autonomous parking assist are part of the standard package.
Over-the-air updates enable remote improvements to security software.
The model meets Brazilian crash-test standards, with reinforcements in the front overhang to protect pedestrians.
Launch strategy targets SP Hall
Dolphin 2027 should appear in SalAutomóvel de São Paulo, from November 22nd to 30th, 2025, without immediate sales. Imports from China begin offering in 2026, with local production in 2027 for the flex hybrid variant.
BYD plans initial volumes of 20,000 units annually, focusing on exports to Latin America.
