Paramount announced this Tuesday (25) the production of “A Hora do Rush 4”, the fourth film in the franchise that began in 1998. The decision came after the elected president of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker reprise the main roles.

The project faced resistance from several studios since its initial announcement. New Line Cinema, responsible for the previous three films, refused the sequel. The partnership between Paramount and Warner Bros. now shares costs and worldwide distribution of the film.

Partnership between studios makes sequel possible

Paramount reached an agreement with Warner Bros. to share financial risks. New Line, a subsidiary of Warner, holds rights to the franchise, but chose not to lead the project alone.

Executives from Paramount reported direct contacts from Trump regarding the film. The president-elect showed repeated interest in the return of the duo Chan and Tucker to the screen.

Brett Ratner resumes direction of the franchise

Ratner directed the three previous films, released in 1998, 2001 and 2007. Após denunciations of the MeToo movement, he moved away from major Hollywood productions.

Since 2017, the director has only directed a documentary about Melania Trump, scheduled for release in 2026 on Amazon. The accusation came from a former employee who alleged rape in 2004; Ratner denied it and signed an out-of-court settlement in 2018.

The return generates debate about the reinsertion of accused professionals in the sector. Paramount confirmed Ratner as director without commenting on past allegations.

Original cast returns to the project

  • Jackie Chan reprises the role of Inspector Lee
  • Chris Tucker returns as Detective Carter
  • No new names have been announced yet
  • Filming has not yet been set.

The chemistry between the protagonists marked the success of the series. The third film, released in 2007, grossed US$258 million worldwide.

Context of the presidential intervention

Trump has expressed public support for Hollywood conservative figures since the campaign. Recentemente appointed Jon Voight, Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson as cultural ambassadors.

The film’s approval comes in the same period as favorable announcements for professionals who have faced criticism in the past. The film does not yet have an official release schedule.

Next steps in production

Paramount begins pre-production in the coming months. Roteiro undergoes final adjustments before filming begins.

International distribution is divided between the two studios. Expectativa of the market points to a debut between 2027 and 2028.
