WhatsApp has started to globally release the Informações feature, previously known as Sobre, in a renewed version. The functionality allows users to post short text messages or emojis that appear at the top of their profile and directly in conversations. The new feature is now available to some Android and iOS users from November 30, 2025.
The update can be temporary, with options of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, or remain fixed until changed manually. Privacy controls follow the same pattern used for profile photo and status: everyone, my contacts, except contacts, or just share with.
Meta confirmed that the feature will be gradually rolled out over the next few weeks to all users of the stable version of the app.
How to access and configure the Informações function
Users find the new option directly in their profile settings. Basta open WhatsApp, tap the name at the top of the home screen and locate the Informações field.
The process requires just a few steps:
- Tap the Informações field (formerly Sobre)
- Enter the desired text or choose an emoji
- Set duration timer
- Choose who can view the update
The message appears immediately below the contact’s name in any individual or group conversation.
Main differences compared to the old Sobre
The previous version only allowed fixed text without time limits or advanced audience control. Agora the feature gained an automatic timer and more prominent visual integration in chats.
The update is visible just below the user’s name in all conversation windows. Quando the timer expires, the field automatically returns to the default option “Hey, I’m using WhatsApp”.
The character limit remains at 139, the same standard used since the application’s launch.
Privacy and viewing options
Controlling who sees the information follows exactly the same rules that already exist for profile photo, last seen and status. São four possibilities available.
Users can select:
- All (including unsaved numbers)
- My contacts
- My contacts, except certain numbers
- Only share with specific people
The configuration is independent for each resource, allowing different combinations between photo, status and Informações.
Why WhatsApp brought the feature back now
Meta has invested in features that bring WhatsApp closer to typical social media elements, while maintaining the focus on private communication. The return of the renewed Informações is part of this strategy.
The company observed that many users used status or automatic out-of-office messages to inform availability or mood. The new field offers a simpler, more permanent alternative that doesn’t clutter the status gallery.
The functionality also facilitates communication in large work or family groups, where quickly informing that you are in a meeting or traveling avoids repeated messages.
Availability and upcoming updates
The feature began to appear for Brazilian users on the night of November 30, 2025. The release occurs gradually and depends on the most recent update of the application on Play Store or App Store.
Meta reported that all users will receive the news in the coming weeks. Não there is a specific version of the application required in addition to the latest version available in official stores.
The company is also considering expanding the feature with text formatting options and clickable links in the future, but nothing has been officially confirmed so far.
Comparison with similar features in other apps
Instagram already offers similar functionality in direct messages, with short text next to the profile name. The Telegram has a bio field with similar characteristics, but without an automatic timer.
The main difference with WhatsApp is the direct integration into conversations, making information visible without the contact having to open the full profile.
