Xiaomi prepares the launch ofXiaomi 17 Ultra, its new high-end smartphone, for December 25th at China. The device stands out for incorporating a 200-megapixel telephoto camera with continuous optical zoom, a technology that uses internal lens movements to zoom in on images without loss of quality.

This innovation brings mobile photographic performance closer to that of professional cameras. The partnership with Leica deepens, resulting in APO certification for reducing chromatic aberrations. The model will only hit the global market in March 2026, probably during Mobile World Congress.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra adopts a triple rear camera system, focusing on superior quality rather than quantity of lenses. The 200MP periscopic telephoto lens offers continuous optical zoom between approximately 3x and 4.3x, corresponding to focal lengths from 70mm to 100mm.

  • Maintains full resolution at all intermediate zoom points.
  • Preserved sharpness without digital interpolation common in smartphones.
  • Improved color fidelity thanks to the Leica’s apochromatic optics.

This setting allows for more natural captures in portraits and distant scenes, raising the bar for mobile photography.

Innovation in the optical system

Continuous zoom technology is based on internal movable mirrors and lenses, similar to professional equipment. Diferente of traditional systems that combine fixed optical with digital in intermediate ranges, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra guarantees pure optical quality in this range.

Leica APO certification minimizes chromatic distortions, ensuring images with accurate colors and high contrast. Essa approach represents an evolution in strategic collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica, announced as an advanced co-creation model.

Advanced main sensor

The main sensor of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra uses the OmniVision OV50X, with a size of 1 inch and a resolution of 50 megapixels. Essa component incorporates LOFIC technology for greater dynamic range, especially in low light conditions.

The ultra-wide camera also reaches 50 megapixels, completing a versatile set. The front should maintain 50 megapixels for high-definition selfies. The circular rear module centers the Leica brand, with a refined design and color options such as black, white and starry green.

Premium performance and hardware

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor equips the Xiaomi 17 Esse chip promises gains in energy efficiency and multitasking performance.

The about 6.8-inch OLED LTPO screen offers 2K resolution, 120Hz ratio, and thin bezels. The thickness of the device is around 8 mm, housing a robust battery of up to 6,800 mAh with 100 W fast charging.

Additional connectivity features

The device includes IP69 certification for water and dust resistance, satellite calling support and advanced connectivity such as Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. The HyperOS 3.0 interface, based on Android 16, integrates AI optimizations for photography and everyday use.

These elements position the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as a complete option in the premium segment. The reduction to three cameras reflects a focus on more powerful and expensive components, prioritizing real optical quality.

Improved battery and autonomy

The battery capacity reaches 6,800 mAh, a significant increase compared to its predecessor. Wireless charging support complements the fast 100 W wired charging, allowing full recharges in reduced times.

Combined with the efficient processor, this configuration guarantees prolonged autonomy even under intense use. The slim chassis maintains a balance between portability and durability.

Design and color options

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a flat screen with minimal edges and a centralized circular camera module. Color options include variations such as classic black, white and special shades with a metallic finish.

The weight is around 227 grams, offering a premium feel. The transition to a straighter design differentiates the model from previous generations with accentuated curves.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra consolidates advances in mobile photography with continuous optical zoom and high-performance sensors. The Chinese launch takes place on December 25, followed by global expansion in early 2026.

This flagship reinforces the Xiaomi’s position in the premium market, competing directly with rivals in optics and processing.
