The recently launched Honor Magic 8 Pro was subjected to the DXOMARK laboratory’s rigorous battery of camera tests, achieving a final score of 164 points. Este result positions the Chinese manufacturer’s device among the five best smartphones in the world for photography, consolidating its presence in the high-performance segment.
The evaluation places the device in a prominent position, although it is behind direct competitors such as the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and the iPhone 17 Pro. Especialistas from DXOMARK highlighted the balanced performance of the photographic set, which delivers consistent results in a wide variety of lighting and usage scenarios.
Robust hardware is one of the main factors for the high score. The combination of high-resolution sensors with advanced image processing software allows the device to capture professional-quality images, challenging market leaders.
Detailed analysis of the photographic set
The camera system on the Honor Magic 8 Essas features ensure sharp, clear photos even in low-light conditions by allowing more light in and compensating for hand shake. Acompanhando the main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens with f/2.0 aperture and a 122-degree field of view allows you to capture wide landscapes and group photos without significant distortion at the edges. The biggest differentiator of the set, however, is its 200-megapixel periscopic telephoto camera. With an aperture of f/2.6 and optical stabilization, it offers a 3.7x optical zoom, which can be extended digitally with minimal loss of quality, making the device a powerful tool for photographing distant objects with an impressive level of detail.
Main qualities highlighted by the evaluation
DXOMARK tests revealed consistently accurate exposure in virtually all lighting conditions, from bright sunlight outdoors to darker indoor scenes.
The device demonstrated a remarkably wide dynamic range, meaning it can preserve detail in both the brightest (highlights) and darkest (shadows) areas of a high-contrast scene.
In photographs captured under good lighting, the level of fine detail remained extremely high, surpassing many direct competitors and providing extremely sharp images.
In portrait mode, the technology for segmenting the main subject in relation to the background proved to be very accurate, creating a natural and professional-looking blur, with no visible flaws at the edges.
Performance in video recording and low light
In video recording, the Honor Magic 8 Pro excelled at maintaining a neutral and accurate white balance, resulting in realistic colors and natural skin tones in most situations. Digital noise control was also praised, being effective in videos recorded under good lighting, which contributes to a clean and pleasant image. Image stabilization proved to be efficient in minimizing shakes during movement.
However, in low-light environments or night scenes, visual noise becomes more apparent, both in photos and videos, compromising image clarity. Evaluators also noticed momentary instabilities in exposure when recording photo sequences or when capturing videos with sudden changes in lighting, a point that differentiates it from the ranking leaders.
Artifacts and technical limitations
Technical analysis has identified the occurrence of inaccurate colors in some video recordings, especially under complex artificial lighting conditions.
In scenarios with a lot of fine detail or complex textures, a loss of definition was noticed, especially when compared to the highest scoring devices.
The depth of field of the main sensor is relatively limited, which can mean that, in group photos, not all people are perfectly in focus.
General device specifications
In addition to the cameras, the Honor Magic 8 Pro is equipped with a 6.71-inch LTPO OLED screen, with a resolution of 2808 x 1256 pixels. The panel offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, Dolby Vision support, and an impressive peak brightness of 6,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even in direct sunlight.
Performance is managed by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, one of the most powerful on the market, which works together with up to 16 GB of RAM and internal storage options that reach 1 TB. The operating system is Android 16, running under Honor’s own MagicOS 10 interface.
Battery and Connectivity Setup
The device’s autonomy is guaranteed by a 7,100 mAh battery in the global version, with support for 100 W fast charging. In terms of connectivity, the device is complete, offering support for 5G networks, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and is IP69 certified for resistance against water and dust.
Availability and price
The Honor Magic 8 Até At the moment, Honor has not officially confirmed whether the smartphone will be sold at Brasil.
Position in the competitive market
Despite not occupying the absolute top of the DXOMARK podium, the fifth position of the Honor Magic 8 Pro confirms that the device is an extremely versatile and competent option for mobile photography. Ele presents itself as a robust alternative for most users, delivering high-quality results in practically all everyday scenarios. The combination of powerful hardware with increasingly refined image processing software guarantees a consistent and reliable photographic experience, while the bet on a 200 MP sensor for long zoom establishes it as a strong competitive differentiator in the fierce premium segment, showing the strength of Chinese manufacturers in innovating and challenging traditional brands.
