Fiat has already started preparations for the second generation of its Coupé SUV, the Fastback, with ambitious plans to transform it into a product with global reach. The new model, scheduled for launch in the first half of 2027, will be built on a modern Stellantis platform and will adopt a futuristic design language, marked by “pixelated” elements, with the aim of competing in several international markets, in addition to consolidating its position in the América Latina.

The development of the project, internally known by the code F2X, is focused on the complete modernization of the vehicle, from its structure to the mechanical and technological set. Production will be concentrated in Polo Automotivo of Betim, in Minas Gerais, which received a significant part of the recent investment cycle by The debut on the Brazilian market should take place shortly after the start of production, scheduled for the end of 2026, with expansion to other countries happening gradually.

A new basis for the Coupé SUV

The main structural change of the new generation of Fiat Fastback will be the adoption of the Smart Car platform, a variation of the CMP (Common Modular Platform) architecture from the Stellantis group. The Essa base is already used in models such as the Citroën C3 and the recently launched Basalt, but for the Fastback, it will be extended to offer more internal space and a more imposing size, in line with the expectations of the compact SUV segment in more demanding markets.

With the new platform, the vehicle’s wheelbase should be increased from the current 2.53 meters to around 2.60 meters. Esse increase will result in a notable gain in space for rear seat passengers, one of the points receiving attention for improvement. Além Furthermore, the Smart Car architecture is designed to be multi-energy, which means that it can easily support combustion engines, mild-hybrid systems (Bio-Hybrid) and even a future 100% electric motorization, ensuring the longevity of the project in the face of new emissions regulations.

The pixelated and futuristic design

Visually, the next Fastback promises a break with the current model, adopting an identity inspired by the latest Fiat concept cars. The main feature will be the use of lighting with a “pixelated” effect, both in the front headlights and taillights. Essa approach creates a unique and technological light signature, with small LED blocks that form the optical assembly.

This design language seeks to differentiate the Fastback from its direct competitors, giving it a more modern and bold look. The front grille will also be redesigned to integrate with this new style, possibly with a pattern that refers to pixels and the brand’s logo prominently.

The coupé silhouette, which is the model’s trademark, will be maintained and improved. Espera The lines become more fluid and the drop in the roof at the rear is even more pronounced, reinforcing its sporty and dynamic appeal.

The sides should gain more defined creases and more robust wheel arches, contributing to a more muscular appearance. The end result will be an SUV with a strong visual presence and aligned with global automotive design trends.

Engine and performance options

Under the hood, the new Fiat Fastback will continue to rely on turbo engines from the GSE family. The entry and intermediate versions must be equipped with the T200 engine, a 1.0 turbo flex three-cylinder that currently delivers up to 130 horsepower and 20.4 kgfm of torque, coupled to a CVT automatic transmission.

For top-of-the-line configurations, the option will be the T270 engine, a 1.3 turbo flex four-cylinder capable of generating up to 185 horsepower and 27.5 kgfm of torque. Este powertrain is combined with a six-speed automatic transmission, offering more vigorous performance.

The big news, however, must be the introduction of Bio-Hybrid technology. The system, which is in the final phase of development by Stellantis on the Brasil, combines the combustion engine with a small electric motor that helps with starting and restarting, reducing fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. Essa technology will be fundamental for the model to meet future phases of the Proconve program.

Interior with more technology and sophistication

The interior of the Fastback will undergo a complete renovation, focusing on technology, ergonomics and quality of materials. The dashboard will be redesigned to house a new set of screens, including a fully digital instrument panel and a multimedia center with a larger screen, probably over 10 inches, with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The expectation is that the interior finish will be improved, with the use of soft-touch materials on the dashboard and doors, as well as new covering patterns for the seats, seeking to convey a feeling of greater refinement. The new platform will also allow the incorporation of a more robust package of driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive autopilot, lane keeping assistant and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, items that are increasingly valued by consumers in the segment.

Production confirmed at the Betim factory

Stellantis confirmed that production of the second generation of the Fastback will be carried out at its factory in Betim (MG). The unit is being modernized to operate with the Smart Car platform, which will allow the manufacturing of several new models simultaneously and efficiently.

The investment in the Minas Gerais plant is part of the R$32 billion cycle that the group announced for its operations in América from

Global expansion strategy

The decision to build the new Fastback on a global platform is the cornerstone of Fiat’s strategy to expand the model’s presence. Atualmente, Coupé SUV is mainly sold in América of Sul and in some selected markets of Oriente Médio and África. With the new generation, the goal is to also introduce it in Europa countries and other strategic regions, where the compact SUV segment continues to grow strongly.

Release schedule

The development schedule foresees that series production of the new Fiat Fastback will begin at the Betim factory in the second half of 2026. Essa initial phase will be dedicated to supplying the domestic market and the final adjustment of production processes.

The official launch to the public and arrival at Brazilian dealerships are scheduled to take place between the end of the first and the beginning of the second quarter of 2027. Exports to other markets of the América Latina will begin shortly thereafter, while the debut on continents such as the Europa should take place throughout the second half of 2027.
