Casio officially announced at Japão its latest investment in the digital watch segment, the W-221H series. The new models revive the aesthetic popularized in the 1990s, with a square box shape, and stand out for their promise of battery life that can reach ten years, eliminating the need for frequent changes.

Initially, the line will be available in two different color variants, with pre-sales already starting through the brand’s official channels in the Japanese market. The central proposal is to combine reliability and durability, hallmarks of the company, with a design that evokes a strong nostalgic appeal, but with modern functionalities.

The launch reinforces Casio’s strategy of maintaining a robust portfolio of affordable and practical watches, offering a direct alternative to smartwatches, which require constant recharging. The focus of the W-221H series is on simplicity of use and longevity, catering to an audience that values essential functionality without complications.

Design and construction details

The structure of the Casio W-221H was designed to balance lightness and strength in daily use. Weighing just 35 grams, the watch features a resin case with dimensions of 43.7 x 38.4 x 12.2 mm, a size considered average that adapts comfortably to different wrists. The big difference in the finish is the metal bezel with a brushed texture, which gives the model a more sophisticated appearance compared to the brand’s other entry-level lines. The bracelet, also made of resin, was designed to fit wrists with a circumference between 145 and 215 mm. Durability is complemented by water resistance of 5 bar, which is equivalent to a depth of up to 50 meters, ensuring protection against rain and accidental splashes during everyday activities.

The functions integrated into the watch

Despite its simple appearance, the W-221H is equipped with a module full of useful features for everyday life. Ele includes a high-precision stopwatch, measuring 1/100 of a second and capable of recording times of up to 24 hours, ideal for sporting activities or task tracking.

The watch also has a countdown timer, which can be set for periods of up to 24 hours and has an automatic repeat function, allowing the countdown to be restarted as soon as the time runs out, a useful feature for interval training.

For those who travel frequently, the Hora Mundial function is one of the great attractions, displaying the time of 48 cities spread across 29 different time zones. Adjustment for daylight saving time, however, must be performed manually by the user.

The alert system consists of three independent daily alarms, one of which offers a snooze function. Além of the audible alert, the watch has the Flash Alert, which flashes the LED on the display to visually notify the user about the triggering of alarms or the end of the timer.

Initial release and color variants

In its debut, the W-221H series hits the market with two color options. The first, identified by the code W-221H-1AJF, has a completely black finish, giving a sober and versatile look.

The second variant, code W-221H-8AJF, comes in a light beige tone, a choice that reinforces the model’s vintage inspiration and offers a stylish alternative to traditional black.

Market positioning and price

With a suggested price of ¥6,050 for the Japão, which corresponds to approximately R$205 in direct conversion, the W-221H line is positioned as an entry-level option with premium features. The competitive value aims to attract both brand loyal consumers and new users.

The official start of sales is scheduled for February 2026, but pre-sale availability indicates a strong expectation of demand. The Casio seeks to occupy a space between the most basic models and the most robust lines, such as the G-Shock.

This affordable price strategy allows consumers to have access to a watch with multiple functions, quality construction and unique design without a large investment, directly competing with the saturation of low-cost smartwatches on the market.

Casio’s strategy with the vintage line

The launch of the W-221H is in line with Casio’s successful strategy of keeping its catalog of digital classics always relevant. Modelos icons like the F-91W and A158 have built the brand’s reputation on durability and functionality, and the new series follows that same philosophy, but with subtle updates for the contemporary consumer. The finish with a metallic bezel, for example, increases the perception of quality, while the medium size meets a growing demand for less bulky watches, which can be worn on different occasions without attracting excessive attention.

This approach allows Casio to capitalize on the growing retro fashion trend, which values products with timeless designs. Instead of competing directly with the connectivity features of smartwatches, the company focuses on its own strengths: mechanical reliability, long battery life and a visual identity that spans generations. The W-221H series does not try to be a smart device, but rather an improved digital watch, which fulfills its essential functions with excellence and style, reinforcing the brand’s image as a synonym of resistance and practicality.

Energy autonomy as a differentiator

The main selling point of the W-221H, in addition to its design, is the battery with an estimated autonomy of 10 years. In a market dominated by devices that require daily or weekly recharges, this feature represents a major differentiator, offering convenience and peace of mind to the user. The absence of a high-power screen and connection modules such as the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi allows the watch to operate for a decade on a single battery, making it an extremely reliable tool for continuous use.

Availability and global expansion

Following a common practice for new launches, Casio chose to start selling the W-221H series exclusively in the Japanese market. Essa strategy allows the company to measure the initial reception of the product and adjust production before possible expansion to other regions.

There is still no confirmed date for the arrival of the W-221H models at Europa or Américas. Geralmente, expansion into international markets takes place a few months after the debut in Japão, depending on sales success and the demand generated. Consumidores from other countries should follow official Casio announcements for future updates on global availability.
