Czech manufacturer Skoda has implemented an unprecedented strategy to strengthen its presence in the competitive Indian market with the recently launched model Kylaq. The automaker confirmed the availability of a certified Gás Natural Veicular (NGV) kit, which can be installed directly at the brand’s authorized dealerships. Essa initiative aims to meet the growing demand for vehicles with lower running costs, without the customer losing the original factory warranty, an important difference in maintaining resale value and owner safety.
The company’s strategic move comes as a direct response to the needs of local consumers, who face high gasoline prices and seek more economical alternatives for their daily commute. By choosing to install the equipment on the authorized network, the brand ensures that technical integration is carried out following strict quality standards, avoiding informal adaptations that could compromise the vehicle’s mechanics.

Technical specifications and compatibility
The alternative power system was approved to work in conjunction with the 1.0 TSI engine and the six-speed manual transmission, a mechanical set that equips the entry and intermediate versions of the utility. The brand’s engineering team carried out exhaustive tests to ensure that the durability of the turbo engine is not affected by the use of gaseous fuel, maintaining the reliability that is characteristic of the Volkswagen group.
Although the use of natural gas results in a natural reduction in power compared to the 114 horsepower delivered with gasoline, the vehicle’s total range is significantly increased. The project envisages the installation of two cylinders in the trunk, allowing the driver to switch between fuels according to need and supply availability in the region in which he or she travels.
Competitive landscape and economy
Preliminary studies indicate that the adoption of the system can reduce the vehicle’s operating costs by up to 50% per kilometer driven, making the model extremely attractive for those who use the car intensively. With this option, the Kylaq now competes on an equal footing with established rivals that already offer bi-fuel variants from the factory, such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon.
The decision to offer the kit as a dealership accessory, rather than producing a specific version on the assembly line, allows Skoda the agility to serve the market without major changes to its production chain. Isso positions the SUV as a versatile alternative, capable of attracting both the public seeking status and comfort and those focused strictly on financial efficiency.
Launch and expansion forecast
The running tests with the prototypes equipped with the new system are already in the final stage of validation on the roads, with the aim of adjusting the engine calibration for the different climatic and relief conditions in the country. The expectation is that official marketing of the kit will begin at the end of the year, possibly during the festive period, a time when the volume of car sales tends to increase.
In addition to the introduction of natural gas technology, the manufacturer has made recent adjustments to the Kylaq price list to keep it competitive in the face of aggressive Asian brands. The company also plans to expand the line with versions with a sporty appeal in the future, demonstrating that the focus on fuel economy goes hand in hand with the intention of offering a diverse and modern portfolio.
