Turquia registered another block of access to the official domain of the AMP project (Accelerated Mobile Pages), an open initiative led by Google to speed up the loading of web pages on mobile devices. The measure came from Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu (TFF), which issued an administrative decision on February 18, 2026, with number 0114-01, determining the restriction of ampproject.org in Turkish territory. The block directly affects the project’s reference website, used by developers and publishers to document and implement the technology.

AMP emerged in 2015 as a response to the need for faster mobile experiences, reducing data consumption and simplifying HTML code. Milhares of news sites and platforms adopted the format to improve performance in searches and navigation via smartphone. The restriction to the main domain does not prevent the functioning of AMP pages already implemented on third-party websites, but it does have an impact on those looking for official technical information or project updates.

TFF decision and previous context

Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu applied the block to ampproject.org without immediately releasing detailed justification. Fontes indicate that similar actions occur to combat irregular broadcasts of football matches, although the AMP domain does not directly host audiovisual content.

This does not represent the first occurrence. On January 22, 2025, the same federation issued a similar decision (101-01), which resulted in a temporary blockade. Após intense reactions from technology sectors and users, access was reestablished in around 16 hours.

The current episode lasted less time than expected in some reports. Pressão publicity and repercussion in digital communities led to the measure being reversed approximately 12 hours after implementation.

Impacts for developers and users

Turkish developers face difficulties in consulting official AMP documentation during the restriction period. The project offers ready-made components and guidelines for creating lightweight pages, essential in regions with unstable connections.

Ordinary users notice little change on a daily basis, as AMP pages on news portals continue to load normally via cache or alternative implementations. The technology has evolved into more integrated versions, reducing dependence on the blocked domain.

Experts point out that selective blocking of technical domains can generate uncertainty in the Turkish web ecosystem. Empresas media and e-commerce companies rely on tools like AMP to optimize mobile traffic.

History of TFF authority in blockades

The TFF maintains the prerogative to order restrictions on domains associated with piracy of sporting events. Decisões administrative provisions allow rapid application without the initial need for a full court order.

A decision by Anayasa Mahkemesi considered this authority incompatible with constitutional principles. The trial took place in an earlier period, with publication on October 14, 2025 in Resmi Gazete. The effective suspension of the prerogative is scheduled for July 14, 2026.

Until the transition date, the federation continues to issue blocking orders. The AMP case illustrates the continuity of this practice in areas apparently disconnected from sports.

Repercussion in the technical community

IT and web professionals expressed surprise at the choice of target. ampproject.org primarily serves as an open resource hub with no direct connection to illegal streaming.

Forums and networks discussed the episode as an example of the broad application of content control tools. Alguns suggest using VPN or proxies to bypass the temporary restriction.

The AMP project, despite having lost some of its initial momentum following changes to Google policies, remains relevant in mobile performance contexts. The quick reversal of the lockdown avoided prolonged impacts.

Current access status

After the block was announced by the EngelliWeb platform, linked to İfade Özgürlüğü Derneği, the ampproject.org domain became accessible again on Turquia. The reversal occurred in response to online demonstrations and media attention.

Recurring situations highlight tensions between copyright regulation in sports and freedom on the internet. AMP continues to be available globally, with a focus on speed improvements for mobile users.
