Volvo Cars has officially expanded its compact electric SUV line, aiming to democratize access to the Swedish brand’s premium technology. The main novelty lies in the introduction of a mechanical package tuned to deliver 150 horsepower (110 kW), combined with a 51 kWh battery. Essa configuration was developed specifically to optimize energy efficiency in urban travel, offering a range of 339 km in the WLTP cycle, which easily meets the daily demand of most drivers in large cities.
The automaker’s move seeks to balance cost and benefit, maintaining the safety standards and visual identity that characterize its models. By offering an entry-level option with calibrated power, the company aims to attract a wider audience looking to enter the electric vehicle segment without giving up advanced technological features. Para consumers who require greater road range, the version equipped with the 69 kWh battery remains in the catalogue, providing up to 476 km of autonomy.
External charging functionality and software
One of the most practical innovations implemented in the model is the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, which transforms the vehicle into a mobile energy source. Essa technology allows the traction battery to supply electricity to external devices, expanding the car’s versatility. With the use of a specific adapter, the car can power camping equipment, work tools or even recharge electric bicycles in remote locations, ensuring that power is available wherever the driver needs it.
In addition to the hardware changes, the vehicle’s operating system will receive significant updates via OTA (Over-the-Air). Previstas to be distributed from February 2026 in selected European markets, these software improvements promise to improve the user interface and power management. The 12.3-inch multimedia center will gain a customizable taskbar, facilitating access to essential functions while driving and increasing the level of safety on board.
New finishing options and adventurous version
The line also receives the reinforcement of the Cross Country version in the “Plus” finish level. Esta variant combines the rugged off-road aesthetics characteristic of the adventurous series with the efficiency of the new standard electric motor. The model maintains body protection and high suspension, but focuses on customers who want the fearless look without necessarily needing all-wheel drive for severe use, balancing style and functionality for mixed use.
Inside, sustainability is highlighted with the introduction of the “Haverest” design option. Inspirada in Scandinavian landscapes, this setup uses recycled materials, including waste jeans and PET bottles, to create a sophisticated and ecologically responsible environment. Essa approach reinforces the brand’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint, not only in electric propulsion, but throughout the vehicle construction chain.
