The Galaxy Unpacked event, held in San Francisco, served as the stage for the official reveal of the latest interface developed by the South Korean giant. Version 8.5 of the operating system debuts natively on models in the Galaxy S26 family, bringing the Android 16 as a structural basis and establishing a new standard for the brand’s ecosystem. The central focus of the update lies in the deep integration of artificial intelligence for routine automation and the significant reinforcement of data security protocols.

The new interface was designed to process information locally, a strategy that aims to increase user privacy and ensure greater agility in executing tasks, reducing dependence on constant connections to the cloud. Usuários who acquire new devices or update compatible models will find more fluid navigation, where the system anticipates needs based on the context of use.

Among the main innovations presented, the software’s ability to interact with native applications autonomously stands out, facilitating daily management without requiring multiple touches on the screen. The proposal is to transform the smartphone into an active agent that helps with personal and professional organization, going beyond a simple executor of direct commands.

Revamped automation and assistant tools

The functionality called Now Nudge acts as a proactive contextual manager, analyzing the content displayed on the screen to suggest immediate and relevant actions. When identifying dates in a text message, for example, the system automatically offers to create appointments in the calendar or set up reminders, integrating with applications such as SmartThings and Quick Share to speed up the workflow.

The virtual assistant Bixby also underwent a complete redesign, gaining the ability to interpret natural language much more accurately and maintain context in long and complex dialogues. Information processing occurs mostly on the device itself, which guarantees faster responses and preserves user privacy by reducing the traffic of sensitive data to external servers.

This evolution positions the assistant as an intelligent agent capable of adjusting deep device settings and carrying out web searches in a conversational way. The interaction becomes more organic, allowing the user to execute sequences of commands without having to repeat the initial context, bringing the experience closer to that offered by advanced competitors in the AI market.

Visual changes and close sharing

The interface design received aesthetic adjustments focused on clarity and intuitiveness, including smoother animations and a redesigned control panel. Users now have greater autonomy to customize the arrangement of shortcuts, being able to resize icons and rearrange elements that were previously fixed, adapting the notification center to their style of use.

In the field of connectivity, the Quick Share has evolved to support transfers via NFC, allowing the sending of large files just by bringing two compatible devices together. The technology, which is already widely used in digital payments, drastically simplifies the process of exchanging documents, photos and videos between devices in the Galaxy ecosystem, eliminating complex pairing steps.

Native apps such as Clima and Arquivos have also received visual updates to maintain consistency with the new design language. Essas changes aim to create a cohesive user experience, where the transition between different areas of the system occurs in a natural and visually pleasing way.

Enhanced privacy and creative editing

Security has been enhanced with a call screening system that uses artificial intelligence to interact with callers before the phone even rings for the user. The feature requests information from the caller and allows the device owner to decide to answer, decline or send a quick response based on the transcribed text of the initial interaction.

To protect sensitive content, the new Álbum Privado in the gallery makes it easy to hide selected photos and videos without the need to create secure folders with complex passwords or additional accounts. The tool prioritizes accessibility and speed in managing personal media, ensuring that confidential files remain away from prying eyes.

In the context of content creation, Estúdio Criativo centralizes several generative artificial intelligence tools. The feature allows you to transform simple sketches into detailed illustrations, create personalized stickers for social networks and develop exclusive wallpapers with just a few commands, democratizing access to advanced edits.

Devices eligible for the update

Although the S26 line is the first to receive the factory software, Samsung confirmed that the distribution will occur gradually for previous models over the next few months. The update strategy must follow similar standards to previous years, with availability staggered by regions and models.

The preliminary list of devices that should receive the new feature includes a wide range of devices, guaranteeing longevity to the brand’s portfolio:

  • Galaxy S Line: Toda to S26 series, S25 family (including Ultra and FE models), S24 and S23 series, in addition to the S22 and S21 FE.
  • Galaxy Z Line: Modelos foldable from Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, covering the Z generations
  • Line Galaxy A: Diversos premium and entry intermediates, such as A56, A55, A54, A36, A35, A26 and A16.

The company has not yet released a detailed schedule with specific dates for each model, but the expectation is that the most recent tops of the line will be the first to be covered after the official launch of the new smartphones.
