Greg McDermott announces retirement from Creighton after 16 years and 365 wins

Creighton Bluejays coach Greg McDermott has announced that he will retire at the end of the current season. The university confirmed the decision in an official statement this Monday (23). McDermott ends a 16-year stint at the helm of the men’s basketball team, a period in which he accumulated 365 wins and established the program as one of the most competitive in the Big East. The transition will be made in a planned manner for Alan Huss, who takes over as head coach from the 2026-27 season.

McDermott expressed gratitude for his time leading the team. Ele highlighted the pride in leading the athletes who represented the program with dedication on and off the court. The coach emphasized the growth seen in the players over the years.

McDermott’s career at Divisão I totals 514 wins and 319 losses in 25 seasons. Antes from reaching Creighton in 2010, he commanded Northern Iowa and Iowa State. No Creighton, the coach guided the team to 13 appearances in the NCAA tournament as head coach in his stints at different universities.
