Honda communicated to Aston Martin the introduction of the first updated version of its power unit in theGran Premio of Miami. Chief engineer Shintaro Orihara updated the Japanese team’s situation ahead of theGran Premio do Japão, in Suzuka, highlighting advances in reliability despite the initial difficulties of the 2026 season of Fórmula 1.

The Japanese brand has faced problems with vibrations, lack of power and energy management since the beginning of the championship. Mesmo therefore, Orihara indicated that measures already implemented should allow drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll to complete Sunday’s race in Suzuka.

  • Avanços na gestão de energia aplicados após análise de dados da China
  • Joint measures with Aston Martin to mitigate vibrations in hardware and pilot
  • Confidence in greater battery reliability to avoid abandonment

The team has yet to complete an entire race in the first two stages of the year. Problemas in the battery and effects of vibrations on the drivers prevented at least one of the cars from seeing the checkered flag.

Preparations for the Japão GP prioritize completion of the test

Shintaro Orihara expressed optimism regarding the level of reliability achieved for the home stage of Honda. Ele stated that progress should allow the Aston Martin drivers to complete the full race on the Suzuka circuit.

The team collected a lot of data during the China GP and analyzed it in a simulator to improve the energy management strategy. Essas improvements have already been applied in preparation for the Japanese weekend, although it is not possible to change performance specifications in the short term.

The Japanese engineer highlighted that Aston Martin worked on parallel solutions to reduce vibrations transmitted to pilots. Medidas of both hardware and cockpit adjustments undergo testing in Suzuka for further evaluation.

Joint work between Honda and Aston Martin on vibrations and drums

Joint efforts aim to mitigate the impacts of vibrations on both the mechanical component and the pilots’ experience. Orihara mentioned that actions are in progress and need validation during the event on Japão.

When it comes to the battery, the Honda has made significant progress after the first few rounds of the season. The problem that led to Lance Stroll’s abandonment in the last race was not related to vibrations, it was a separate incident.

Parts shortages for the power unit and battery limited the team in earlier stages, but Orihara expressed confidence that this will not pose a concern to Suzuka. Ele avoided providing specific numbers on available components.

FIA authorizes countermeasures to improve power unit reliability

The FIA allowed Honda to make changes aimed at increasing the reliability of the power unit. Orihara explained that, if necessary, countermeasures can be applied within the current regulations.

The plan remains under evaluation, with the main focus placed on the next stage of the calendar. Honda plans to implement the first thruster upgrade on theGran Premio of Miami, which occurs after the interval created by not carrying out the Bahrein and Arábia Saudita tests.

Objective at Miami represents a milestone for exiting the initial adjustment phase

The introduction of the new engine in Miami marks the moment awaited by Aston Martin and Honda to advance in the season. Orihara preferred not to detail exact deadlines beyond confirming the American stage as the main target.

The engineer indicated that the window between the GP of Japão and Miami will be used for continued development. The FIA authorizes these changes for reliability reasons, which paves the way for verification of the plan during the race in the Estados Unidos.

Aston Martin works in parallel on solutions to reduce vibrations that affect rider comfort. The overall objective remains to consistently complete races and maximize the technical package currently available.

Technical advances aim for stability for Alonso and Stroll pilots

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll reported discomfort caused by vibrations in previous stages. Honda and the British team apply measures to minimize these effects and allow for more uninterrupted track time.

The Suzuka circuit represents an important test for the group, especially due to its symbolic importance for the Honda in its territory. Improved power management and greater battery stability form the basis of expectations for the weekend.

The 2026 Fórmula 1 season continues with technical challenges for several power unit suppliers. In the case of the Honda-Aston Martin partnership, the focus remains on resolving root issues to build performance throughout the year.
