In March 2026, Samsung Electronics began releasing the Digital Home Key functionality within the Samsung Wallet application. Usuários of compatible Galaxy smartphones can now add a digital key to unlock smart home locks. The feature expands Wallet’s digital key capabilities, which were previously focused primarily on vehicles, to include residential access seamlessly into the Samsung ecosystem.

Configuration occurs through the SmartThings app with support for the Matter standard. Durante the compatible lock integration process, the user adds the Digital Home Key directly to the Samsung Wallet. Unlocking takes place by bringing the smartphone close to the lock or remotely, depending on the specifications of the device and the lock installed.

  • Initial support via NFC communication on select Galaxy models.
  • Contactless proximity detection via Ultra Wideband (UWB) starting in April 2026 on supported devices.
  • Remote control via the app for access management.

The functionality uses the Aliro protocol, an open standard developed by Connectivity Standards Alliance for access to smart locks. Essa technical base allows interoperability between different brands and ensures that digital keys work in a standardized way. Samsung collaborates with industry-leading manufacturers to enable the feature on products already available or being launched.

Unlocking features and integration with the Galaxy ecosystem

The Digital Home Key stores the key securely on the Samsung Wallet, protected by the Samsung Knox platform. Users can manage or revoke access remotely via the Samsung Find service if the device is lost. Authentication occurs through biometrics or PIN defined in the application, which restricts use to the authorized owner only.

Companies like Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings are working to support the feature in their smart locks. The expansion of availability follows the launch schedule of Aliro compatible models by these brands. Compatibility varies depending on the lock model and user region.

Models Galaxy from the S21 line onwards, some from the A series and the Xcover 7 Pro already receive the Wallet update with the new feature. Full UWB support should gradually arrive in April 2026 for devices that have the necessary hardware. The integration maintains Wallet as a central hub for payments, documents and now also digital access keys.

Partnerships and technical standard Aliro for greater interoperability

The Samsung reinforces collaboration with smart home market partners to align the Digital Home Key with the Aliro standard. Esse protocol seeks to create a unified digital key experience, similar to what already exists in other ecosystems, but with an emphasis on security and ease of use. Initial lock configuration still requires SmartThings to establish the Matter connection.

Users who already have compatible locks can add the digital key during device onboarding. The process is simple and maintains all existing privacy settings and permissions in the lock management app. The feature does not replace full control via the brand’s dedicated app, but adds a layer of convenience via smartphone.

Protection against unauthorized access follows high standards, in line with EAL6+ certification in platform security aspects. Testes guarantees resistance to common tampering attempts in digital access systems. The key remains stored locally on the device, without constant reliance on the cloud for basic near-unlock operations.

Security and privacy in digital key storage

The Samsung highlights that all digital keys on the Wallet receive robust protection through the Knox, which isolates sensitive data in a secure environment. Usuários maintain full control over who can access the home, with options for temporary sharing or immediate revocation. Essa approach reinforces confidence in the use of smartphones as replacements for traditional physical keys.

The rollout began in select regions during March 2026 and is expected to progress as partner brands release firmware updates and new lock models. Interessados should check availability with the official Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, or Xthings websites to confirm local support and exact schedule. Nem all current Matter locks support Aliro out of the box.

The functionality represents another step in the evolution of Samsung Wallet as a multifunctional application. Além of payment cards and digital identifications, the service now covers physical access to the home in an integrated manner with Galaxy devices. Usuários who adopt the SmartThings ecosystem gain additional practicality in their daily lives.

Initial availability and next steps for users

NFC support is already active on several eligible Galaxy models since the start of the rollout. The addition of UWB should enhance the experience by allowing hands-free unlocking just by approaching the unlocked phone. Essa combination of technologies offers flexibility depending on preference or available lock hardware.

Samsung recommends keeping the Wallet application updated to receive the functionality as soon as it is released in the user’s region. Integration with SmartThings remains essential for the initial configuration of any compatible lock. Futuras updates should expand the list of supported devices and brands over the next few months.

Gradual expansion according to the schedule of partner brands

The Digital Home Key arrives at a time of growth in the smart home market, where open standards such as Matter and Aliro facilitate consumer adoption. Samsung positions the feature as a practical solution that combines security, convenience and native integration with your smartphones. Usuários can check the full device compatibility list on the Samsung developer site to confirm if their Galaxy is eligible.
