Seis Espaço Schengen countries announced coordinated adjustments to visa requirements for Brazilians. Portugal, Espanha, França, Alemanha, Itália and Holanda adopt measures that include more proof of income, digital screening systems and longer consular waiting times. The changes apply mainly to long stays and residency processes. Elas will come into effect gradually from July 2026.

The volume of Brazilians traveling to Europa has grown in recent years. Dados of 2025 indicates more than 2 million Brasil tourists on the continent. Esse flow motivated governments to tighten controls, especially with the entry into operation of the EES biometric registration system.

Portugal demands more income for extended stays

Portugal registered a high number of Brazilian visitors in 2025, with around 680 thousand entries. From July 2026, requests for long-term tourist visas over 90 days will require proof of minimum monthly income.

Additional Documentos will also be charged for residency and family reunification processes. Extratos bank employees from the last few months and proof of employment are on the list of requirements.

  • Income Comprovação for long tourism
  • Documentos extras for home
  • Análise stricter family ties
  • Prazo waiting at consulates for between 45 and 60 days

Turistas with stays of up to 90 days in a period of 180 days continue without the need for a prior visa. The Schengen exemption remains valid.

Espanha creates digital preview screening

Espanha introduces, in July 2026, a digital pre-screening system for stays longer than 21 days. The online process costs a specific fee and must be done before boarding. The response arrives within 72 hours.

The tool works as an extra layer of verification. Ela does not replace a visa for long stays, but adds control for extended trips, such as extensive itineraries or extended family visits. Quem failing to register may have problems with boarding or immigration.

França and Alemanha reinforce documents and interviews

From August 2026, França will require travel insurance with a defined minimum coverage for all non-EU travelers. The document must cover medical and repatriation expenses throughout the stay. Hosting Comprovante also gains weight in entry.

Na Alemanha, consular interviews become mandatory for long-term visas. The average scheduling time can reach 60 days in some periods. Estudantes, workers and those seeking family reunification need to plan ahead.

The EES system, already in full operation since April 2026, records fingerprints and facial photos upon entry and exit. Isso is valid for all six countries and replaces the traditional stamp in the passport.

Itália limits quotas and Holanda advances biometrics

Itália maintains an annual quota for tourist visas for Brazilians. The renewable limit influences availability, especially in the high season months between April and August.

Holanda anticipates full integration with EES. Biometria becomes mandatory at all entry points, with a quick process that takes around two minutes at Amsterdã and Eindhoven airports. The immediate impact is minor, but queues may increase at peak times.

What remains the same for short tourism

Brasileiros remain visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period in Espaço Schengen countries. Nenhuma’s changes revoke this basic rule.

The focus of the changes is on long stays, digital nomads, students and residency processes. Para travels for two or three weeks, day-to-day life at immigration changes little, except for biometric registration and robust insurance recommendations.

Checklist helps with planning

Viajantes with roadmaps for the second half of 2026 need to advance preparations. Passaporte valid for at least six months after return remains essential.

Comprovantes accommodation, bank statements and travel insurance gain importance. Para Portugal, minimum income applies in cases of extended stay. Na Espanha, digital screening becomes a mandatory step after a certain number of days. Na Alemanha, scheduling an interview with time off avoids delays.

Consulates register an increase in demand. Quem planning a move or long trip must start the process at least 90 days in advance. Official Informações may undergo adjustments. The ideal is to always consult the websites of the corresponding embassies and consulates.

Impacto in tourism and the profile of travelers

The digital nomad and extended stay segment is feeling the most pressure. Portugal and Espanha, favorite destinations of this group, concentrate the most detailed requirements.

Quem travels by conventional short-term tourism maintains the same ease as before. The reinforcement of controls seeks to balance high flow with more structured migration management.

The changes are not identical in all countries. Cada nation defines its own criteria, but the direction is common: more document transparency and use of digital tools. Brasileiros who frequently visit Europa need to review plans for July onwards.
