BYD has confirmed the launch of the Dolphin plug-in hybrid in the Brasil later this year. The announcement took place this Friday during Salão of Automóvel of Pequim. The brand’s senior vice president in the country, Alexandre Baldy, gave the details to the press.

The version, called Dolphin G, is in an advanced testing phase on China. It is expected to hit the national market in the second half of the year. Baldy avoided announcing visual changes or complete technical specifications of the model.

Plug-in hybrid Versão advances in testing on China

BYD is working on the compact’s plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Dolphin G is already being tested in the Asian country.

The executive preferred not to go into many details about the look. Ele only indicated that the launch will take place in 2026. The strategy seeks to expand the line’s options with a model that combines electricity and combustion.

Dolphin’s current Linha maintains original design

The senior vice president stated that the current Dolphin lineup will not receive major changes. “We will not change our design,” said Baldy. The phrase reinforces the continuity of the look known in Brasil.

The compact and the Mini remain BYD’s best-selling vehicles here. The company occupies a position among the five brands with the highest volume of registrations in the national market.

Essa decision preserves the identity that helped popularize the models. Consumidores have already gotten used to the hatch’s lines. Qualquer would be a bigger change for future generations.

The focus now turns to the new hybrid engine. Ela may attract customers who are still hesitant about 100% electric vehicles.

King remains on sale and may gain local production

Rumores pointed to the possible departure of King from the Brazilian portfolio. Baldy ruled out the hypothesis. The sedan remains available and may even be nationalized.

“If the Brazilian consumer wants that model, we can produce it in the Brasil”, declared the executive. The phrase paves the way for manufacturing in Camaçari, in Bahia.

Somente this year, King registered 3,020 units registered. The number places the model in second place in the medium sedan segment. Ele is second only to Toyota Corolla.

The current version should not undergo significant changes in the short term. Na China, the model evolves into a new generation. No Brasil, BYD opts for stability for now.

BYD’s Estratégia on Brasil gains momentum with hybrids

The confirmation of the hybrid Dolphin reinforces the brand’s expansion plan. The company invests in different technologies to cover more customers.

The plug-in hybrid allows you to run part of the time on electricity alone. At the same time, the combustion engine guarantees extra autonomy on long journeys. Essa combination tends to reduce recharge anxiety.

BYD already has experience with DM-i technology in other models. King, for example, uses a similar system and stands out for its efficiency.

The nationalization of King, if confirmed, would reduce costs and delivery times. The Camaçari factory already produces other vehicles for the brand.

The movement occurs at a time of growth in the electrified market in the country. The Dolphin Mini leads electric sales. Dolphin also appears with significant volume.

Brazilian Mercado receives more options from BYD

The arrival of the plug-in hybrid could attract drivers looking for savings without giving up practicality. The price has not yet been released. Fontes from the sector indicate that the model should cost less than the pure electric version.

BYD avoided giving exact dates beyond the second half of the year. The focus continues on preparing the network and adapting the product to local tastes.

The announcement made in Pequim shows alignment between global and Brazilian operations. Baldy participated directly in the conversation with the press at the Chinese event.

The brand reinforces its presence in the country with a varied portfolio. Hatchbacks, sedans and the promise of hybrids expand consumer choices.

Dolphin remains one of the pillars of the strategy. Agora, the G version could open a new chapter in the model’s history here.
