Estudantes from Missouri will participate in a conversation with two NASA astronauts who are on Estação Espacial Internacional. Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway will answer recorded questions about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The broadcast takes place on Thursday, April 30th.

The event begins at 10:50 a.m. Eastern Time on Estados Unidos. Ele will be shown live on the Learn With NASA YouTube channel. The initiative is from Serviço of Transição Pré-Employment of Universidade of Missouri, in Columbia.

Evento encourages careers in science and space exploration

The activity brings together students from kindergarten to high school as well as members of the local community. The questions cover STEM topics. The main objective is to show the daily lives of those who work in orbit and highlight the role of research carried out on board the station.

Jessica Meir commands SpaceX’s Crew-12 mission. Jack Hathaway acts as pilot. Ambos are part of Expedição 74. Eles launched in February 2026 aboard the Dragon spacecraft and arrived at the station the following day.

The call allows participants to hear direct responses from the astronauts. Isso brings the public closer to ongoing space activities. NASA maintains constant contact with Centro of Controle of Missão in Houston through the space communications network.

Astronautas prepares training for launch in January

On January 12, 2026, Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway performed an equipment interface test on Centro Espacial Kennedy, on Flórida. Eles donned pressure suits and entered the Dragon spacecraft. The exercise simulated launch day activities.

The session allowed them to closely observe the capsule that would take them into orbit. Equipes from NASA and SpaceX followed the procedure. The focus was to ensure familiarity with the ship’s systems before takeoff.

Jessica Meir accumulates previous spaceflight experience. Jack Hathaway carries out its first mission. The Crew-12 crew also includes ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot and cosmonaut Roscosmos Andrey Fedyaev.

Estação Espacial Internacional completes more than 25 years of continuous operations

Desde the early 2000s, astronauts live and work uninterruptedly on the orbital platform. Eles perform scientific experiments and test technologies. The results benefit applications on Terra and prepare future missions.

The station orbits at around 400 kilometers altitude. Ela completes one lap around the planet every 90 minutes. The current crew conducts research in microgravity that is not possible in terrestrial laboratories.

Esses studies involve areas such as human health, materials and fluid physics. The data collected supports the Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to Lua and plan trips to Marte.

Missão Crew-12 advances in-orbit research

The crew performs daily activities that include systems maintenance and scientific data collection. Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway contribute to ongoing experiments. Continuous human presence allows for real-time adjustments to research protocols.

NASA emphasizes the educational value of these contacts with the public. Eventos and the call with Missouri show how space exploration inspires new generations. Alunos have the chance to ask questions about topics they study in class.

Live streaming makes it easy to access first-hand information. Qualquer person can follow it on YouTube. The event reinforces connections between education and real space activities.

Educational call Detalhes with Estação Espacial Internacional

The session is scheduled to last around 20 minutes. The questions were recorded in advance by the organizers. The astronauts respond from the station, with the audio and video transmitted to the Terra.

Interessados in news coverage must confirm their presence by 5pm on Wednesday, April 29th. Contact is Kimberly Pudlowski, by phone at 636-697-5845 or emailkimberly.gee@missouri.edu.

NASA offers more information about educational calls on the official website. Esses events are part of a broad program that connects the agency with schools and communities in different regions.

The conversation takes place as the station undergoes an active research phase. The astronauts share space with international colleagues and maintain constant communication with control on Houston.
