Polícia Civil of Rio of Janeiro launched another stage of Operação Contenção this Wednesday (29), this time focused on dismantling Comando Vermelho’s money laundering structure. Rapper Oruam, his mother and brother are among those wanted. One man was arrested at the time of writing this report.

The investigation took 12 months to identify the criminal scheme. Police officers extracted data from seized electronic devices and cross-referenced financial information to piece together the operation’s puzzle. The work revealed “a structured system for receiving, dispersing and reinserting illicit values into the formal economic circuit”, according to the DRE report.

Oruam and family in the crosshairs of justice
Singer Oruam has been on the run since February this year, when he violated the electronic ankle bracelet in a case related to attempted murder. The incident involved confusion with police outside his home in July the previous year.
Além of the rapper, DRE is looking for Márcia Gama, Oruam’s mother and businesswoman, and Lucas Santos Nepomuceno, known as Lucca, the singer’s brother. Diálogos points out influence of Marcinho VP
The investigation identified conversations between Carlos Costa Neves, known as Gardenal, one of the CV’s main bosses, and a militiaman. The messages reinforce Marcinho VP’s position as the faction’s central leadership, even after years in prison. The DRE highlighted that these communications are essential to prove the web of command and control of the criminal scheme.
This Wednesday’s operation is an ongoing part of a strategic offensive by the state government. Desde the beginning of Operação Contenção, which seeks to contain and attack the territorial expansion of Comando Vermelho, more than 300 criminals were captured and 136 fatal clashes were recorded.
