Samsung presented the One UI 8.5 version, a new update that brings advanced artificial intelligence features to its Galaxy smartphones. The update marks the brand’s deepening of the use of generative AI integrated into mobile devices, with a focus on productivity and user personalization.

The news comes at a time when smartphone manufacturers are competing for leadership in implementing AI in consumer devices. Samsung seeks to keep up with rivals such as Google and Apple in offering tools that leverage machine learning in users’ daily lives.

Principais AI features included in the update

One UI 8.5 brings improved image interpretation, photo editing with voice command object removal and automatic document summarization. Essas functions run partially on the device, reducing dependence on cloud connection. The update also improves built-in visual search and offers auto-reply suggestions in text messages.

The visual search system now identifies plants, animals, products and locations more accurately. The camera now functions as a real-time research tool. Image recognition performance has improved by about 30% over the previous version.

  • Edição of photos with voice command
  • Resumo automatic long texts
  • Busca enhanced visuals with 3D recognition
  • Sugestões response in messages
  • AI Drum Otimização
  • Personalização adaptive interface

Compatibilidade and implementation schedule

One UI 8.5 will initially be distributed to the Galaxy S26, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 models. Older Dispositivos such as Galaxy S24 and S25 will receive the update in phases, expected to arrive between February and April 2025. Samsung stated that devices with three years of manufacture will still be covered with the new features.

The distribution schedule varies depending on region and telephone operator. Usuários can check availability in the device’s system settings. The update occupies approximately 2.8 GB of storage space, requiring connection to Wi-Fi for download on mobile networks.

The Samsung offers automatic rollback if the user encounters incompatibilities with specific applications. Esse feature keeps the previous version for up to 30 days after upgrading.

Security and Privacy Melhorias

One UI 8.5 introduces end-to-end encryption for data processed locally. Nenhuma image or document is sent to Samsung servers without explicit user consent. The data used to train the local AI system was collected with user approval during initial setup.

The company created a dedicated control panel where the user can see which data is being processed and by which AI. Há option to completely disable artificial intelligence functions for those who prefer to use their smartphone without these features. Independent privacy Auditoria validated the update security protocol.

Samsung claims that sensitive information such as financial messages, medical data and private conversations never leave the device. Processing takes place in a dedicated processor core, isolated from the rest of the operating system.

Impacto in performance and battery

Preliminary Testes indicates that using local AI consumes less battery than sending data to cloud processing. Dispositivos with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor (present in Galaxy S26) perform AI functions with 25% more energy efficiency than previous generations. Average autonomy for daily use remains between 18 and 20 hours with the update active.

The increased processing consumption is offset by software optimizations that reduce unnecessary CPU and GPU work. Samsung developed an algorithm that disables AI features when the battery is below 15%, prioritizing essential functions.

Usuários reported in the beta phase that previous updates caused excessive heating in long photo editing sessions. The Samsung corrected this problem with a new thermal dissipation system and dynamic limitation of parallel processing.

Competição in the mobile AI market

Google and Apple already offer similar features on their cell phones, with Pixel AI Assistant and Apple Intelligence. The difference is that Samsung allows greater user control over what data is processed locally versus sent to the cloud. Essa stance aligns the brand with privacy trends in consumer technology.

The adoption of AI on smartphones still encounters resistance in conservative markets and among users concerned about privacy. Samsung invests in consumer education about the security of its systems. One UI 8.5 represents the company’s significant commitment to differentiation through accessible and transparent artificial intelligence.
