A residence was completely destroyed by a fire caused by lightning in Rio Grande, on the south coast of Rio Grande of Sul. Corpo of Bombeiros Militar (CBM) registered the case in the Hidráulica neighborhood, around 1:30 pm this Friday. Não there were victims, as confirmed by the corporation.
Raio hit the wiring and started the fire
The electrical discharge reached the residence’s wiring, causing ignition that quickly spread throughout the structure. The CBM was called as soon as the fire began to consume the house.
Operação fire fighting
Bombeiros arrived at the scene and found the structure already in advanced flames. The residence was completely engulfed in fire when extinguishing work began. The operation lasted until the flames were completely under control. The speed at which the fire spread left little time for any preventative action. Equipes used water resources to prevent the flames from reaching neighboring structures.
Características of the fire and affected area
The Hidráulica neighborhood, where the property was located, concentrates residences in a consolidated urban area. The atmospheric discharge was considered a high-energy event, capable of completely damaging residential electrical systems. Períodos of rain and intense storms increase the risk of direct lightning strikes on structures. The CBM reported that the residence did not have protection systems against atmospheric discharges.
Fatores who contributed to the total destruction:
- Old electrical Fiação without adequate protection
- Rapidez of flame propagation through the structure
- Materiais flammable materials inside the residence
- Roof lightning rod Ausência
- Lightning discharge Intensidade
Investigação and download data
The CBM did not identify explosions or secondary risks during the fire. Technical expertise confirmed that the ignition point was the electrical wiring. Rio Grande records periodic cases of fires caused by meteorological phenomena, especially during spring and summer. Atmospheric Descargas in homes can reach temperatures exceeding 20 thousand degrees Celsius, far exceeding the melting temperature of metals. Sistemas suitable protective shields significantly reduce the risk of lightning damage.
Situação current and security
Não there was a need to evacuate neighboring properties while fighting the fire. Neighbors were kept at a safe distance to allow firefighters to work. Investigações continues on the structural condition of the property before the incident. The owner of the house and his belongings were completely lost. Moradores from the region reported hearing the thunder of electrical discharge before the flames appeared.
