Aston Martin plans to present updates to its Fórmula 1 car in the Grande Prêmio of Canadá, the next stage of the 2026 season. Mike Krach, the team’s director of track operations, signaled the changes in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, contradicting previous statements by Fernando Alonso about the development calendar.
Alonso had stated that “significant performance improvements would not be seen until the 12th or 14th run”. Krach, however, indicated that the team is prepared to present news sooner. The position reflects the importance of the race for both the team and partner Honda.
Mudanças focus on reliability and drivability
The upgrades coming to the Canadá do not constitute a full-scale aerodynamic package. Segundo clearance, improvements focus on three specific areas:
- Component Confiabilidade
- Desempenho car driving and handling
- Power Unidade (UP)
Krach highlighted the progress made in recent months. “The progress we’ve seen in recent weeks and months, especially in terms of reliability, vibration reduction and drivability improvements, has been remarkable. Acho we’re already seeing some pretty significant improvements,” said the director.

Resposta quick to initial problems
The team faced considerable difficulties at the start of the 2026 season. Krach acknowledged the complexity of the challenges, but emphasized the speed with which Aston Martin resolved them. “We had a lot of problems, some quite complicated, at the beginning of the season. But I think the speed with which we resolved them was really remarkable.”
Esse performance reflects internal mobilization to regain competitive rhythm. The work carried out by the technical and operational departments allowed progress on critical issues before Montreal.
Still significant gap Reconhecimento
Apesar of progress, Krach admitted the persistence of a performance gap between Aston Martin and the strongest competitors. “We also need to recognize that there is a significant gap that needs to be filled.” This finding indicates that Canadá updates are an intermediate step, not the definitive solution.
The schedule for major improvements remains scheduled for after the European summer holidays, when new aerodynamic solutions should reach the cars. The current strategy combines optimization of the existing package with specific reliability fixes.
Foco in current performance extraction
Krach reinforced that the immediate priority is not just future development, but maximizing the potential of the current machine. “It’s extremely important to have a clear strategy and plan. Trabalhar on the circuit means making the most of what you have. Há has a lot to learn from the data collected.”
Essa approach includes continuous analysis of telemetry collected on track and simulation. The team seeks to better understand the car’s behavior in different circuit conditions. “And it’s important to keep the entire team motivated, keep working and look to the next stage,” he added.
Grande Prêmio of Canadá takes place on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, in Montreal, which presents unique characteristics with sections of fast acceleration and technical curves. Planned changes can bring measurable benefits in this specific environment.
