Valve remains silent on the exact date and price of Steam Machine, but recent signs point to an imminent announcement. Shipments from ‘Game Consoles’ arrived at the company’s warehouses directly from China this week, totaling around 5 tons. Embora insufficient for an immediate global launch, the move suggests the manufacturer is accelerating preparation. The company promised news “soon” and reaffirmed its objective of launching the console in the first half of 2026.

Pierre-Loup Griffais, chief programmer at Valve, stated in an interview with IGN that the team is working intensively on the product. “We definitely hope to share news soon on this,” he said. With just seven weeks until the end of June, there is still real scope for Valve to meet its own deadline.

Cronograma launch still surrounded by uncertainty

Quando announced Steam Machine in November 2025, Valve set a release for “early 2026”. The deadline was later adjusted to the vague “first half of 2026”. The company justified the delays by citing rising RAM costs and other pressures in the global market.

In a statement posted on the official blog, Valve wrote: “Our goal of launching all three products in the first half of the year has not changed. But we have work to do to come up with concrete prices and launch dates that we can announce with confidence.” Steam Controller, paradoxically, was released with less than a week’s notice, demonstrating that Valve can act quickly when necessary.

The lack of availability of Steam Deck in several markets, including Reino Unido, raises doubts about supply capacity. While Valve already faces difficulties obtaining components for its existing line, tackling the production of an entirely new platform could present a significant challenge.

Preço estimated close to the £1k mark

The cost of Steam Machine remains a mystery, but Valve has provided insight into its pricing strategy. The company stated that it would seek a value “comparable to a PC with similar specifications” and “on the same level as other consoles.” PlayStation 5 Pro costs £789.99, while Xbox Series X retails for £499.

Estimativas internals suggest that building a PC with the same specifications as the Steam Machine would cost approximately £930. Considerando than Valve has advantages in bulk purchases and will use a semi-custom processor from AMD, the final price could be slightly lower. Entretanto, with Nintendo increasing the price of Switch 2 this year, expectations of an affordable launch price decrease considerably.

Electronic component costs still remain high compared to previous periods, although they show signs of stabilizing after some AI server projects are discontinued in early 2026.

Hardware scaled to 4K and 60 fps

The Steam Machine is designed as an affordable gateway for gamers interested in playing their Steam library on the big screen. The machine runs SteamOS, the same operating system based on Linux as the Steam Deck, but allows complete customization to run Windows 11 like a traditional PC.

Official specifications include:

  • Semi-custom Processador AMD Zen 4 with 6 cores and 12 threads, maximum frequency 4.8 GHz, consumption 30W
  • Placa semi-custom AMD RDNA3 graphics with 28 compute units, maximum sustained clock of 2.45 GHz, consumption of 110W
  • 16GB of DDR5 RAM plus 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM
  • Fonte with integrated power supply, compatible with bivolt (110-240V)
  • Armazenamento in two models: 512GB or 2TB NVMe SSD
  • High-speed microSD card Slot in both versions

Valve claims that this configuration will be able to run most modern titles in 4K at 60 frames per second. More demanding Títulos, such as Cyberpunk 2077, will utilize artificial intelligence-based upscaling techniques, such as FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), to maintain performance.

Capacidade processing versus market reality

The hardware architecture demonstrates a clear commitment to improved graphics processing. The 110W allocated to the GPU represents the largest share of energy consumption, signaling priority in visual performance. The combination of high-speed DDR5 RAM with dedicated VRAM suggests that the Valve sought to minimize data transfer bottlenecks between the processor and graphics memory.

Native SteamOS support offers a unique advantage over traditional consoles: players get an open system, without proprietary lock-ins, while retaining the flexibility to install additional software. The complete backend of the Steam ecosystem, including Proton compatibility libraries, reduces risks of incompatibility with titles released during the previous era.

Entretanto, global electronic component shortages limit optimism about initial availability. Rumores of new shipments to Valve warehouses indicate behind-the-scenes movement, but restricted volumes suggest possibly launching in specific markets before global expansion.
