Confederação Brasileira of Futebol presented a proposal for changes to fit Brasileirão’s matches. The objective is to improve attendance and move the championship to daytime hours instead of nighttime.
Cinco main axes of the proposal
CBF structured its presentation into 5 fundamental topics:
- Priorizar daytime departure times
- Reavaliar the 7pm window on weekdays
- Reavaliar Sunday games after 8pm
- Ampliar the use of the Sunday 11am window
- Reduzir conflicts between Séries A and B
Problemas identified during nighttime hours
The survey conducted by the CBF identified below-average attendance levels in matches scheduled at 7pm during the week. Esses night games face low fan attendance in the stands. Sunday night, especially after 8pm, also sees worrying attendance figures. The entity found that this Sunday night period has a negative impact on revenue and fans’ experience.
In contrast, Saturday night was not identified as an attendance problem. Confederação notes that this weekend schedule works satisfactorily and is therefore not included in the priority list for changes.
Oportunidade at 11am
In the context of this assessment, the CBF identified unexplored potential at 11am on Sunday. The entity believes that it can significantly increase the use of this period in regions and seasons in which weather conditions allow matches to be held. Esse morning slot offers a viable alternative to expand the game offering under favorable conditions for the public.
Impacto on broadcasts and calendar
The proposed changes directly affect the television broadcasting schedule and the clubs’ logistical planning. Horários, more concentrated in the afternoon and morning, requires restructuring of commercial agreements and adjustments to the casts’ travel and accommodation schedule. Reducing conflicts between Séries A and B allows for better distribution of news coverage and transmission resources.
The proposal represents a strategic move by CBF to revitalize Brasileirão’s box office revenue. Muitos stadiums have faced a drop in attendance in recent years, especially at night, affecting ticket revenue and the fan experience. The concentration of games during daytime hours is in line with the international trend of maximizing presence in stadiums.
