Asian automaker GAC has started the reservation period for the Aion UT model in the national market. The vehicle represents the manufacturer’s first fully electric hatch developed specifically for consumers in the country. The official arrival of the car at dealerships is scheduled for the beginning of June. Interested parties can now make advance purchases both in physical stores and on the company’s digital e-commerce platforms. The commercial strategy aims to anticipate demand before the formal launch.
The strategic move places the brand in direct competition in the heated segment of compact battery-powered vehicles. The new car arrives to compete with models already established on the streets, such as the BYD Dolphin GS and the Geely EX2. The manufacturer is betting on a larger package and standard equipment to attract the urban public seeking energy transition. Analistas from the automotive sector see the maneuver as a fundamental step towards consolidating the company’s sales infrastructure in the country.
Estrutura physics and motorization capabilities
The engineering of the GAC Aion UT presents measurements that surpass its main direct competitor, the BYD Dolphin. The electric hatch is 4,270 millimeters long and 1,850 millimeters wide. The height of the vehicle reaches 1,575 millimeters. The interior space benefits from an extended wheelbase of 2,750 millimeters. Essas proportions ensure greater comfort for rear seat occupants and expand cargo capacity in the luggage compartment.
The car’s mechanical package delivers impressive numbers for the urban compact category. The electric motor positioned on the front axle develops 204 horsepower. Maximum torque reaches 21.4 kgfm, providing agile acceleration in heavy traffic in large cities. The power supply for the entire electrical system depends on a lithium iron phosphate battery, known on the market by the acronym LFP, with a total storage capacity of 44.1 kWh.
The model’s energy efficiency underwent rigorous evaluation by national regulatory bodies before being released for sale. The Instituto Nacional of Metrologia, Qualidade and Tecnologia (Inmetro) has an official range of 310 kilometers on a full charge. The range perfectly suits daily commutes in urban centers and allows for short trips on weekends. The vehicle’s electrical architecture supports charging at high-power stations available on highways.
Versões finishing and equipment list
The model’s portfolio in the country will be divided into two different finishing configurations to suit different buyer profiles. Version Premium will act as the line input option. The Elite variant will occupy the top of the catalog with exclusive comfort items and onboard technology. Ambas options share the exact same motor and battery pack. The differentiation occurs exclusively due to the convenience and safety package offered to the driver.
The manufacturer defined a list of robust standard equipment for all units sold nationwide. The car leaves the factory with 17-inch alloy wheels and a 360-degree camera system. Sensores front and rear parking spaces help with maneuvering in tight spaces. A technical detail adapted specifically for the reality of national roads is the inclusion of a spare tire, replacing the quick repair kit common in competing electric cars.
The Elite configuration adds technologies aimed at active safety and superior passenger comfort. Items exclusive to this version include:
- Teto panoramic solar equipped with electrically operated curtain.
- Pacote complete with advanced driver assistance (ADAS level 2).
- Sistema automated opening and closing of the trunk lid.
The design department provided six color options for the hatch’s body paint. Buyers can choose from Cinza, Branco, Preto, Vermelho, Verde and Bege shades. The pricing strategy positions the vehicle in a highly competitive range for current standards. The estimated final value ranges between R$120 thousand and R$150 thousand. The official price list awaits confirmation from the board for the weeks before the first deliveries.
Estratégia corporate and brand expansion
The introduction of GAC Aion UT carries significant weight in the Asian automaker’s long-term planning. Diretor of Engenharia and Manufatura, Leo Lucaks, and the brand’s CMO, Luis Fernando Guidorzi, highlighted the importance of the product during recent presentations. The electric hatch will function as a pillar of sales volume for the national operation. The model joins the GS3 and GS4 SUVs in the company’s expanding portfolio.
The development of the project required months of specific adaptations to the country’s severe driving conditions. The engineering team calibrated the suspension and electronic traction systems to handle the uneven asphalt and high tropical temperatures. The board recognizes the strong competition in the electrified compact segment. The main goal established by management is to guarantee immediate competitiveness and gain market share in the first months of sales at dealerships.
The advancement of Asian brands in the battery-powered vehicle sector has transformed price dynamics in the country over recent years. The arrival of new competitors forces a constant adjustment of the tables suggested by the distribution networks. The end consumer ends up benefiting from the expansion of the offer of models with a high level of embedded technology. GAC is betting on aggressive cost-benefit to surpass rivals that already have a consolidated technical assistance network in all regions.
Perspectivas of nationalization and local production
The automaker’s strategic planning includes manufacturing the hatch in the national territory in the near future. The company formalized an agreement in March 2025 to use industrial facilities located in the city of Catalão, in the state of Goiás. The chosen manufacturing complex is operated by the company HPE. The official investment schedule foresees the start of the assembly of the brand’s vehicles from the year 2027, after the adaptation of the assembly lines.
The signed contract covers all stages of the production process and the logistics of distributing the cars to the dealership network. The Goiás unit has a long history of assembling vehicles of different categories and sizes. Atualmente, the production lines of the Catalão factory are responsible for assembling the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck and the Eclipse Cross sports utility vehicle. GAC’s operation on site will occur completely independently, without any corporate link with Mitsubishi Motors.
The nationalization of production represents a vital protection against exchange rate fluctuations and changes in import tariffs. The federal government has implemented a schedule for the gradual resumption of import taxes on electric and hybrid cars brought from abroad. Local manufacturing of the GAC Aion UT will ensure greater price stability in the medium term. The generation of direct and indirect jobs in the central-west region is also part of the counterparts of the industrial project signed with the local authorities.
