Barcelona reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign striker Anthony Gordon in a deal valued at more than 69 million pounds. The value was confirmed after weeks of advanced negotiations between the English and Spanish clubs, consolidating one of the main movements in the transfer market.

Valores and transfer terms

The final proposal exceeded 80 million euros, surpassing offers from other interested parties in the player. Munique’s Bayern held formal talks with Newcastle, but the difference in valuation between the clubs prevented an agreement. Barcelona presented an acceptable proposal which led to the deal being closed before the England team’s training period at Estados Unidos.

Newcastle has established itself in a strong position to demand above-average value for Gordon, whose contract with the English club extends until 2030. In March this year, executive director David Hopkinson made it clear that the club would only sell its players on its own terms, a change in strategy compared to previous management.

Reinvestimento and rebuild

The agreement allows Newcastle to reinvest resources in the transfer market this summer. The English club finished the 2025-26 season in 12th place in the Premier League, signaling the need to reformulate the squad. The sale represents an opportunity to raise substantial funds for renovation.

Everton has resale rights over Gordon. Liverpool’s club will receive 15% of any profit made by Newcastle on the sale of the striker, in a mechanism agreed upon when it formed Gordon on its basis. Esse agreement could result in up to £45 million in additional benefits for Everton.

Carreira from Gordon into Newcastle

Gordon scored 17 goals for Newcastle United in all competitions in the 2025-26 season. The player was treated as the club’s key scorer and always considered the one most likely to leave the institution. Nos last 4 games of the season, coach Eddie Howe left Gordon on the bench, signaling the possible outcome.

Newcastle fans sang the player’s name after the 2-0 defeat to Fulham in the last match of the season, a match that turned into an early farewell. Gordon’s attitude throughout the period was praised by Howe, even when he found himself away from the field regularly.

Mudança Newcastle Strategy

The sale of Gordon marks a different approach to that adopted in the saga involving Alexander Isak. Newcastle initially resisted pressure from Isak to transfer to Liverpool, but bowed to the interest and sold the striker for a British record fee of £125m on the final day of the previous transfer window.

Desta instead, the club operates under a different executive structure. Hopkinson, as executive director, and Ross Wilson, as sporting director, have firmly established themselves in their positions. The absence of a sporting director the previous summer was particularly felt in the management of the Isak situation and negotiations with agents.

Hopkinson adopted a different stance than its predecessor Darren Eales. Enquanto Eales had said it would be “crazy” for Newcastle to sell its best players, Hopkinson pointed out in March that the club would look to “maximize the opportunity” and get the best possible price in negotiations. Esta strategy is reflected in the agreement with the Barcelona.
