World Surf League confirmed the return of Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb to the sport’s elite to compete in Rio Pro. The surfer won an invitation to compete on the beach of Itaúna, in Saquarema, in Rio of Janeiro, in an event scheduled between the 19th and 27th of June 2026. The elite athlete had been out of competitions since March 2025. The withdrawal initially occurred to prioritize care related to mental health and, subsequently, due to the complete period of gestation of her first daughter, Bia Rose.

Circuito Mundial’s return to the stage takes place less than two months after the birth of the baby. The official announcement from the highest surfing entity celebrated the return of the Olympic runner-up to the Região Lagos tour. The organization noted that the athlete has a renewed mentality for the national challenge. The statement highlighted that the presence of the newborn will bring extra motivation to the fans on the sand in Rio de Janeiro.

Rotina on Garopaba marked physical preparation with a focus on muscle rehabilitation

The competitor’s recent routine had been completely focused on the initial care of her daughter. The baby was born at the beginning of February 2026. Alongside his partner and also a professional surfer Jessé Mendes, Tati Weston-Webb chose the city of Garopaba, located on the coast of Santa Catarina, as a place of refuge and base for the first postpartum months. Foi at her family’s residence in Santa Catarina where the athlete received official confirmation from the WSL about Circuito Mundial’s plans for the next seasons.

The organizing league guaranteed a wildcard for the surfer to return permanently as a permanent member of the global elite in 2027. The athlete’s planning for the rest of this year still included a moderate pace of daily training. The immediate main goal involves technical reconditioning. The definitive return to wave activities began to be planned a few weeks ago, respecting the biological limits of recovery from pregnancy.

The transition process from motherhood to water requires specific clinical care:

  • Pelvic Fisioterapia focused on correcting abdominal diastasis developed during the nine months of pregnancy
  • Progressive strengthening Exercícios to restore optimal rowing power at sea
  • Low-impact functional Treinamentos to restore stability in the leg joints
  • Sessões daily surfing shorts to activate muscle memory accumulated in your professional career

Histórico on Itaúna’s beach and reissue of Olimpíadas’s landmark confrontation with Paris

The desire to compete in the June window in Saquarema was already being fueled by the surfer. In previous interviews, Tatiana Weston-Webb has detailed Lagos’s special affection for the Região arena. Last season, the gaúcha created in Havaí participated in the heats in Rio of Janeiro when she was already in early pregnancy. Aquela’s appearance generated great engagement from the Brazilian public who massively attended the Itaúna sands.

At the Brazilian stage in 2025, the technical performance guaranteed reaching the quarter-final stage. The elimination of the home surfer took place against the American Caroline Marks. The confrontation marked a direct repeat of the gold medal dispute that took place in the Jogos Olímpicos and Paris, played in Teahupoo, in the Taiti, in the year 2024. The result in the Polinésia Francesa ended with the victory of the Estados Unidos athlete, leaving the gaucho with the historic silver medal.

Evolução technique in practical training points the way for Circuito Mundial

Mesmo concentrated on motherhood commitments in Santa Catarina, the athlete did not give up contact with the ocean. The free training sessions on the beaches of Garopaba served to maintain an active connection with the boards. The gain in pace in recent weeks surprised the technical team that monitors the competitor’s physical evolution. The main focus lies on reacquiring the ability to execute the strongest and most plastic maneuvers in the elite repertoire.

The evolution in the water was classified as very positive by the surfer in assessments of her own physical conditioning. Tatiana Weston-Webb mentioned that although optimal total strength still takes time to work, the body’s neurological response has made classic wave line movements easier to perform. The entry into the series of larger waves presents continuous improvement and gives security to face the heavy conditions that usually hit the beach of Itaúna in the winter of Rio and Janeiro.
