Toyota tests prototype pickup based on the Corolla Cross on São Paulo highway

A camouflaged prototype of a pickup truck derived from the Corolla Cross is circulating in open tests at the Brasil. The vehicle was spotted by photographers on a highway in the São Paulo region. The Japanese automaker is preparing the launch for the first quarter of 2027.

The model maintains the identical front end as the Corolla Cross SUV. Starting from the windshield, the design changes to accommodate the bucket. Imagens show an elongated body at the rear, with squarer wheel arches and a wide tailgate with an integrated step. The lanterns appear to extend across the entire width of the vehicle, in the style of other recent launches from the brand.

The double cab prototype displays details that indicate adaptations for use as a pickup truck. The belt line rises towards the rear. Trilhos on the roof ends in small spoilers. The main stretch is in the rear overhang, without changing the wheelbase too much.

Especialistas point out that the model uses the TNGA platform. Reforços structures prepare the body to support the weight of the loaded bucket. The result is a unibody vehicle that competes in the compact pickup truck segment alongside the Fiat Toro, Ram Rampage and Chevrolet Montana.
