Valentine’s Day is approaching and gshow chose the couple Giulia Be and John Conor Kennedy for the special cover of the date. The two starred in a striking and sensual photoshoot in just the right measure, celebrating their recent union. In the conversation, they shared information about the ceremony and the big Brazilian party, as well as details about how a relationship with different cultural roots works.

The production chose the largest suite in Latin America, located at the Tivoli Mofarrej, in São Paulo, to record the images. The team was surprised by the evident connection between the bride and groom, marked by sparks, intense looks and affectionate exchanges throughout the session.

Exclusive! Giulia Be and Conor Kennedy open up about their relationship and wedding party

Married since March in an intimate ceremony held in the United States, Giulia and Conor opted for a grand celebration in Rio de Janeiro on October 10th. The program includes three days of events: a reception party, a family blessing dinner at Christ the Redeemer and a religious ceremony at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé Church, in the city center, followed by another large party in a house in the Botanical Garden.

One of the first statements I made to Conor was: my love, I love you, but I don’t intend to get married in Massachusetts. I consider Brazil to be one of the ideal destinations for a wedding celebration. Here people dedicate themselves fully, they know how to organize a party that goes on into the night. It was important for me to show this to the public, said Giulia Be.

A member of one of the most internationally known families, Giulia officially began using the surname Bourguignon Marinho Kennedy after her marriage. Conor, lawyer and great-nephew of former American president John F. Kennedy, is enthusiastic about bringing relatives and friends to Rio de Janeiro for the first time.

I come from the most beautiful city on the planet and this would be a unique opportunity to welcome his entire family to Brazil, along with friends. I wanted to present the best the country has to offer and offer a memorable party. Imagine someone who has never seen Christ the Redeemer and will have the chance to meet him during their own wedding. This makes everything even more special, added Giulia.

Wedding will have guests from all over the world

The notion of a restricted ceremony was far from reality. On Conor’s side alone, the list of family members already totals 150 people. With guests arriving from different parts of the world, the singer and the lawyer sought to balance elements of both cultures. One aspect that could not be missed were the traditional speeches typical of American weddings.

We wanted to incorporate habits that they usually have at wedding celebrations. Speeches, for example, today appear more frequently at Brazilian parties, but they were not common in the past. In the United States, they represent one of the highlights of the event, explained Giulia.

Yes, especially in my family, Conor confirmed.

Intimate marriage proposal

The couple also reported that the engagement proposal took place before moving into their joint home in Los Angeles and that Conor managed to maintain the element of surprise.

The lawyer mentioned that he asked for help arranging the furniture, but he organized everything in advance. He decorated the empty room and installed cameras to record the moment.

I informed him that we had rented the property, but that everything was not ready yet due to pending issues in the contract. I prepared several candles, flower arrangements and positioned cameras in the unoccupied living room. Then, I waited for her arrival, he described.

If you know Conor, you realize that he doesn’t usually care that much about records or recordings. Even so, he understood that I wanted to keep that moment forever, said Giulia.

Cultural differences

Giulia defines herself as an authentic Carioca, while Conor was born in New York, coming from a traditional American family. Despite such different origins, the relationship worked well and the couple often laughs at the cultural particularities that arise.

I remember an occasion when my mother tried to hug him and he responded with the typical American hug. My mother then said: no, Conor, a Brazilian hug. I think that’s the main difference, commented Giulia in an amused tone.

Conor highlights that Brazilians’ connection with their family is usually stronger than in the United States, but he considers himself privileged to have close relatives.

I think Latinos in general maintain very close family ties, something less common for most people in the US. I’m lucky because I come from a big family and I’m very close to my brothers and cousins. So I was already a little familiar, but Giulia and her family are really close. Even though I love my brothers very much, there are cultural differences, Conor noted.

Even in the face of cultural differences, Conor shows great appreciation for Rio de Janeiro. The first visit to the city occurred through Giulia and, at that time, the couple immediately decided that the wedding celebration would take place there. Four years later, the lawyer’s favorite dish is stroganoff. He also enjoys rice and beans and a good pastry.

His favorite restaurant is Braseiro da Gávea, in the South Zone of Rio. It was there that Giulia took him to try picanha for the campaign. He loved the broccoli rice and sauce during the campaign, she says.
