Hero MotoCorp has introduced the Flex Fuel version of the Splendor Plus, its most popular commuter bike in India. This new development represents a relevant step in the context of the increase in the mixture of ethanol in the country’s fuel. Available from ₹82,810 (ex-showroom Delhi), the bike runs on blends from E20 to E85 (85% ethanol + 15% gasoline) and is positioned as a future-proof model, aligned with government goals for energy security and environmental protection.
The Flex Fuel version costs around ₹5,000 more than the standard Splendor Plus and incorporates 36 technical changes, including fuel pump, filter and ECU mapping. The 97.2cc engine delivers slightly higher performance with E85, as well as lower emissions and greater efficiency in everyday use. With i3S technology and new graphics, the bike combines traditional reliability with innovation. Anyone planning to buy should check out the main highlights.
1. E85 engine and technical updates
Hero has carried out 36 modifications to make the bike E85 compatible. These include a reinforced fuel pump, secondary air filter, ethanol-resistant components and ECU recalibration. The system automatically detects the fuel blend and adjusts the engine. Therefore, the motorcycle runs without problems with E20, regular gasoline or E85.
2. Engine and performance
The air-cooled 97.2 cc single-cylinder engine delivers, with E85, power between 8.44 and 8.56 bhp and torque of 8.3 Nm. The numbers are slightly higher than those of the standard version. The 4-speed gearbox guarantees good performance on a daily basis. The high octane rating of ethanol provides cleaner burning, with a reduction of up to 77% in CO and 40% HC emissions.
3. Price and value for money
In Delhi, the ex-showroom price is ₹82,810, around ₹5,000 above the conventional Splendor Plus. Initially, the bike will be available in Delhi and some regions of Maharashtra, with nationwide expansion expected in the following months. Considering future-proof technology and the possibility of cheaper ethanol fuel, the additional value may be justified for those who drive a lot.
4. Equipment and design
The bike features new lemon yellow graphics, Flex Fuel badges and a semi-digital instrument cluster (Digi-Analog). It maintains i3S automatic start and stop technology at idle, USB charging and drum brakes with CBS. With a weight of 113 kg and a 9.8 liter tank, it preserves the comfort and practicality of the Splendor line.
5. Fuel efficiency
Consumption is expected between 62 and 70 km/l with E20 (it may drop a little with E85). The lower carbon footprint aligns with India’s ethanol blending goals and helps reduce dependence on imported gasoline. Overall, the Hero Splendor Plus Flex Fuel offers reliability, eco-friendly appeal and affordable maintenance in an attractive package.
