Not even the Wallet app, also known as Wallet, escaped the iOS 27 updates. The app will receive two main new features, in addition to some adjustments, in Apple’s next system: the possibility of creating digital passes and a tool to facilitate account splitting.
These new features, combined with the improvements already introduced in iOS 26, indicate an expansion in the app’s role. Previously focused mainly on storing cards, Wallet gains more relevance within the Apple ecosystem, now functioning as a more active platform for payments and digital documents.
Creation of tickets and loyalty cards
The feature has been expected and is designed to handle event tickets, membership passes, and loyalty cards. There are two main ways to generate a digital pass: using Visual Intelligence to convert a physical item to digital or assembling everything manually from scratch.
The functionality appears in the first beta version of iOS 27. However, as noted by AppleInsider, for now it is only possible to create passes manually. Tests indicate that Apple prepares specific templates, such as orange for general uses, blue for memberships and purple for events, which helps with customization.
Division of accounts
Another feature mentioned before, dividing bills starts with scanning a receipt using the iPhone’s camera. The Wallet app then opens and offers options to request payment from others involved or pay just your own part of the bill.
Apple’s vice president of software, Sebastien Marineau-Mes, detailed how it works: “If you are having a meal with your friends, decide to point your iPhone at the bill, then [you can] select what you ordered to split the amount using Apple Cash”.
Experts highlight that the feature must integrate Apple Intelligence to automatically identify items, calculate fees and tips, and generate payment requests intelligently, including within Messages. This expands the practical use of Wallet to everyday group situations.
Many users hope the tool will work beyond Apple Cash, which is currently only available in the United States, to reach a wider audience in other countries.
Revamped Apple Pay payment screen
Lastly, Apple updated the design of the Apple Pay payment screen. The change makes it simpler to choose or change the card at the time of the transaction.
