Striker Richarlison, 29, responded on social media to criticism received about the choice of his son’s name, Richarlison Jr. The comment came from an internet user on an entertainment page on Instagram and questioned the fact that the player had given the boy the same name as his.
“Imagine calling Richarlison your whole life and, when you have a son, repeating the name,” wrote the internet user. The player from Tottenham, England, responded immediately. “Go look for work, Monike with K. Rick Jr. won’t need to work,” he said.
The repercussion came a few days after the early celebration of his son’s first birthday, the result of his relationship with influencer Amanda Araújo. Even with Richarlison outside the final list for the 2026 World Cup, the couple opted for a football theme at the party and used the “Copa Baby” decoration.
Richarlison was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s definitive call-up for the 2026 World Cup. Before the final cut, however, the striker had been called up by the Italian coach throughout the Brazilian team’s entire preparation cycle.
Criticism of the child’s name is nothing new for the family. Even during her pregnancy, Amanda Araújo had already spoken out about the negative reactions on the networks. At the time, the influencer explained that the choice was made with care and reinforced her admiration for the player’s trajectory and values.
She also declared that she was not disturbed by different opinions, but considered the comments that pointed out possible harm to her son’s future exaggerated. According to Amanda, the boy will grow up surrounded by opportunities and affection, regardless of the name chosen by his parents.
