Marcus Rashford will not remain at Barcelona next season. The Catalan club decided not to exercise the 30 million euro purchase option provided for in the loan contract with Manchester United. With this, the English striker returns to the Old Trafford team.

The transfer agreement was reached last summer and included a mandatory buyout clause only if Barcelona wanted it. After evaluating the squad, budget and priorities for the 2026/27 season, the Blaugrana board chose to release the player without triggering the fee.

During the 2025/26 season, Rashford performed well in the Barcelona shirt. The Englishman participated in around 49 games, scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists, contributing to the Catalan club winning national titles.

The decision marks the end of a cycle that represented a rehabilitation for the attacker in his career. Loaned after a difficult period at Manchester United, Rashford found space and regularity under the command of Hansi Flick.

With his return to United, Rashford’s future is once again uncertain. The player has a contract with the English club until 2030, but relations with the fans and the coaching staff have not been the most fluid in recent times. Clubs from the Premier League and other leagues are already monitoring the situation.

Manchester United, in turn, needs to define its planning for the striker. Rashford’s stay in the squad or a new departure, permanently or on loan, will depend on negotiations in the coming weeks.
