Striker Marcus Rashford will no longer wear the Barcelona shirt in the next cycle of European football. The management of the Spanish team took the decision to give up the right to acquire the federative rights of the athlete from England definitively, the value of which was set at 30 million euros (approximately R$180 million) in a prior agreement established with Manchester United.
The definition of the Spanish leadership was strongly impacted by the recent acquisition of fellow Briton Anthony Gordon. Due to the fact that both perform identical tactical functions on the pitch, a sector that already has the Brazilian Raphinha as an alternative, the technical committee identified an overcrowding of athletes for the same sector, adding to the financial weight of Anthony Gordon’s transfer, which cost 80 million euros (around R$467.3 million).
The model of marking under pressure under the command of coach Hansi Flick was the main technical argument for the dismissal, since Anthony Gordon delivers high defensive intensity when attacking the opponent’s ball, a characteristic that Marcus Rashford has difficulty fulfilling. The age disparity between the attackers served as a complementary argument, as the professional linked to Manchester United turned 29, registering a difference of more than three years in relation to the new reinforcement.
