Bandai Namco has confirmed a free demo ofEchoes of Aincrad, the new action-RPG in the Sword Art Online franchise. Players will be able to test the title before its full release scheduled for July 10, 2026. The trial version will be available first on PC and then on consoles.
The demo arrives on PC via Steam on June 15, 2026, at 10am Pacific Time (2pm Brasília). On June 16th it will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The test allows you to create a personalized character, explore villages to rest and manage equipment, as well as face known enemies on the floors of Aincrad castle.
Combat and partner system stand out in previews
Those who had early access to the preview praised the real-time combat, with parry mechanics, dodge, light and heavy attacks and fluid combos. A strong point is the partner system, which allows you to take an NPC companion on missions to alternate between support and attack, distracting enemies.
The game recreates the classic Sword Art Online experience, focusing on single-player, but maintaining the tension of an MMORPG transformed into a deadly game.
Death Game mode allows permanent death
One of the most faithful features to the original work is the optional Death Game mode. When activating it, the character’s death results in the definitive deletion of the save file, with no possibility of recovery. The mechanics can be combined with different difficulties and is especially recommended for new plays, increasing risk and immersion.
This option, along with the deep customization of appearance, weapons and skills, reinforces the appeal for fans who want to relive survival in Aincrad in a more intense way.
Release and platforms confirmed
Echoes of Aincradwill be released on July 10, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. In addition to the standard edition, Deluxe and Ultimate versions will be available with additional content, including early access to Death Game mode.
The original Sword Art Online anime series is available on Crunchyroll, while Yen Press publishes the franchise’s light novels, manga, and audiobooks.
