Manchester City began drawing up plans for the period after the departure of coach Pep Guardiola and defined midfielder Elliot Anderson, currently at Nottingham Forest, as the main target to open the next transfer window.
The Manchester club’s board is preparing an initial investment of 106 million pounds (around R$846.7 million). The total operation could reach the £120 million mark (R$960 million) if contractual targets and bonuses are met. Nottingham Forest, however, demands payment of the full amount in a guaranteed manner, without the inclusion of productive variables.
If Nottingham Forest accepts the proposal under the terms presented by Manchester City, the transaction will become the biggest in the history of English football involving a British athlete. Currently, the top of that list belongs to midfielder Declan Rice, bought by Arsenal from West Ham for 105 million pounds in 2023. Due to his great recent performance, Anderson also attracts the interest and monitoring of Manchester United.
Sandro Tonali appears as an alternative to midfield
Manchester City’s football leadership is working on an alternative plan if terms with Nottingham Forest do not progress. Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali, who plays for Newcastle, is the name chosen by the board to fill the sector if the main deal fails.
Who is Elliot Anderson and how does he play
Born in Scotland, Elliot Anderson began his professional career at Newcastle and had a notable spell on loan at Bristol Rovers before moving to Nottingham Forest in 2024. The athlete is characterized by his versatility in the midfield sector, being able to act both centrally in the setup of plays and open on the sides of the field. His ease in handling the ball under pressure and his high capacity for short dribbling in reduced spaces caught the attention of Manchester City analysts, who see the player as the ideal profile to maintain the team’s style of technical control in the coming seasons.
