With the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Mexico City imminent, scheduled for this Thursday (11), family members of individuals who disappeared as a result of the actions of criminal cartels organized an act of protest. The demonstration highlights the persistent crisis of violence and impunity affecting the country, where more than 100,000 people are officially missing, adding a layer of gravity to the festive backdrop of the global event.

Carrying posters that displayed the faces of their loved ones, participants sought to advance towards the Azteca Stadium, the main stage of the sporting event. However, the movement was promptly contained by the police force, who established a robust blockade using heavy vehicles and security barriers, preventing the group from approaching the celebration site.

Additionally, in the days leading up to the big event, the Mexican capital witnessed other waves of social discontent. Local teachers took to the streets on several occasions, expressing their demands for salary adjustments and revisions to current pension regulations.
