The investigation into the serious accident involving two aircraft in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, which claimed the lives of six people last Sunday, the 14th, is now focusing on recent revelations. Investigators in the case discovered that the owner of one of the helicopters, registered PP-MAC, had previously been penalized by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) in mid-2025.

Anac’s administrative decision, dated July 2025, imposed a sanction of 8 thousand reais on businessman Oswaldo de Luca Filho. The penalty was applied due to his refusal to provide books, accounting documents, information and statistics requested by inspection agents, representing the first infraction of this type and receiving the minimum fine in force at the time.

The operational condition of the other helicopter involved, the PP-DJJ, also became a central point in the analysis. Preliminary evidence suggests that this aircraft did not have the necessary authorization to carry out air taxi operations. The team responsible for the investigation, led by the Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), is now seeking to determine whether the flight was private or whether it represented a charter without appropriate permissions, although the latter hypothesis still requires official confirmation.

Details of the fatal collision in Recreio dos Bandeirantes

The tragic impact occurred last Sunday morning, in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes area, in the west zone of Rio. The two aerial devices collided while in the air, falling into land that served as a parking lot for electric and hybrid vehicles on Avenida das Américas. One of the aircraft suffered an explosion when it crashed, resulting in a fire that consumed dozens of cars stored there.

All six people on board the two helicopters lost their lives in the incident. The victims included the pilots of both machines and four passengers, including renowned American singer Oliver Tree. Several corporations, such as the Fire Department, Civil Police, Anac and Cenipa, were mobilized to respond to the complex incident at the site.
