A new mod for Stardew Valley allows players to reconcile with their ex-spouse and rebuild the relationship without having to erase the person’s memory. The creation, called No Need To Forget – Divorce Reconciliation, was recently launched and is already attracting attention from the community for bringing more depth to the game’s relationship system.

The mod divides the post-divorce process into five distinct stages of reconciliation. In Hurt’s initial phase, the ex is still hurt, with a reduced chance of accepting gifts and slower friendship gains. As the heart progresses, interactions gradually improve until reaching the possibility of new dating and marriage.

Each of the base game’s 12 romanceable NPCs receives unique dialogue tailored to all stages. This includes daily conversations, reactions to gifts, acceptance or refusal of bouquets and proposals, totaling more than 800 new lines. Creator Pinecone sought to maintain fidelity to the original character of each character.

In addition to specific dialogues, there is a generic set for compatibility with mods that add new romanceable NPCs. The mod works on existing saves, including divorces prior to installation, and is compatible with polyamory mods. There is no confirmed support for multiplayer.

In the original Stardew Valley, getting divorced locks your ex’s friendship to zero and only allows for full recovery by erasing the memory via the Witch’s sanctuary. The mod changes this by allowing the relationship to evolve based on shared memories, with lines that express regret, softness and, finally, gratitude for the second chance.

Players can adjust parameters such as friendship gain speeds and heart thresholds through the configuration menu. The author plans to add special 8 and 10 heart events for each NPC in future updates.

The mod is available for free on Nexus Mods and requires SMAPI. Users recommend backing up your save before testing, especially on saves with old divorces.
