Player Hector Bello’s wife is found dead after building collapse in La Guaira during earthquake in Venezuela
The wife of Venezuelan athlete Hector Bello died due to the strong earthquake that shook Venezuela last Wednesday (24).
However, the couple’s daughter, a toddler, was rescued alive, according to local press reports. The family’s residential building, located in the state of La Guaira, one of the hardest hit regions, completely collapsed.
Bello, 28 years old, plays as a defender and is currently without a team. Until 2025, he defended the colors of Bolívar SC, a club based in Ciudad Bolívar, also in Venezuela.
Another athlete, Argentine Lucas Trejo, publicly announced that members of his family disappeared after the catastrophe.
Devastating consequences of a geological phenomenon that had not been seen for a century
Last Wednesday night (24), a series of two consecutive earthquakes impacted the northern portion of the nation, including the capital Caracas. In addition to the fatalities, the tremors caused the collapse of numerous structures and a scenario of ruin in the Venezuelan metropolis and its surroundings, requiring a national emergency mobilization and highlighting the vulnerability of the region’s old buildings. These events represented the highest intensity earthquakes recorded in the country in more than a century.
Recent data released by Venezuelan authorities points to a total of 188 fatalities as a result of the earthquakes. Additionally, 1,520 individuals were injured, and approximately 200 people remain buried under the debris.
Currently, search and rescue teams face major challenges in trying to locate the missing and rescue trapped individuals. Community initiatives organized by residents of the affected areas, aimed at helping in the search for family and friends, have already recorded more than 24 thousand missing people.
