Google has made Beta 6 of Android 17 QPR1 available for its latest smartphones, a week after releasing the fifth beta. This update brings several fixes and improvements, being accessible to testers and developers who use the Android Emulator. The acronym QPR stands for “Quarterly Platform Release,” highlighting the importance of these interim updates that introduce new features and stability improvements between major annual Android releases.

The Beta 5 version of Android 17 QPR1 had reached the Platform Stability point, with the finalized application programming interfaces (APIs). This milestone indicates that Google’s main focus now turns to eliminating problems, setting the stage for the definitive launch with the highly anticipated Pixel 11 series, expected to take place between August and September 2026.

In this recent iteration, Google focused on solving a bug that prevented multiple languages from being chosen for spell checking. Additionally, an issue affecting the functionality of the buttons in the Clock app interface and several visual glitches observed in the operating system’s Quick Settings were fixed.

The fifth beta version also fixed a flaw in the Wi-Fi hotspot which, instead of displaying the name configured by the user, showed a generic name for other devices. Another significant error, related to WindowManagerGlobal, which caused crashes in certain applications, was also properly resolved.

Although Beta 5 of Android 17 QPR1 is available for models such as the Google Pixel 6a, the entire Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 line, the recommendation is caution. Users are advised to avoid installing this version on their main cell phones, as it may still present instabilities that compromise daily usability.
