Images of a supposed foldable iPhone circulated again this Monday (29/06), revealing the device in a black version and offering new clues about its finish. The photographs show details of a design that appears wider than expected for the device.

Although speculation about the format was already circulating, the appearance in black stands out as a recent fact. Unconfirmed information suggests that Apple could present the device in September, perhaps under the names iPhone Ultra or iPhone 18 Fold.

Structure of Apple’s foldable device begins to be revealed

Non-operational prototypes, like the one that emerged, are commonly used to develop accessories before revealing them to the public. The exposed model features a 7.76-inch internal panel, with functionality that resembles that of a compact tablet.

According to information released by Jam Online, the portal that obtained and published the images, the proportion of the new foldable iPhone aims to improve multitasking, enabling the simultaneous display of two applications. This feature refers to the Huawei Pura X Max, presented in April, which adopts a similar concept and focuses on productivity.

Externally, the smartphone would include a 5.49-inch display. When closed, its shorter and wider structure would evoke the design of old models, such as the classic BlackBerry Passport.

Design features: thickness and location of controls

The published photographs highlight a notably reduced thickness of the device. According to GSMArena, the foldable iPhone will be just 4.5 mm thick when fully opened, a feat that places it among the thinnest in its category. Once closed, its structure promises to be comparable in thinness to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, showing that Apple is seeking competitiveness in this regard.

The volume controls, in turn, are located on the top edge of the device. Although unusual for traditional phones, this arrangement proves practical for using the device in tablet mode, optimizing ergonomics.

On the right side, the model features the on/off button and an exclusive key to activate the camera. The USB-C connection remains positioned at the bottom, between the audio outputs.

Photographic setup and internal hardware

The rear of the prototype reveals a camera module with a pill-shaped design, suggesting the presence of two main sensors. Meanwhile, the external display has a circular hole for the front camera.

The internal technical specifications, however, are still based on unofficial information. The future device could be launched with the A20 Pro processor and have 12 GB of RAM.

Since Apple has not formally confirmed the device’s existence, it is possible that both the design and internal components will be changed before any official announcement.
