Nancy Pelosi announces that she will not seek re-election to the United States Congress. The 85-year-old Democrat announced her decision via video this Thursday, November 6, 2025. The current term ends in January 2027.

The parliamentarian has represented San Francisco since 1987. She served as president of the House of Representatives for two periods. Pelosi led the Democrats in the legislative house between 2003 and 2023.

The decision marks the end of a career spanning almost four decades at the Capitol. Pelosi became the first woman to command the House in 2007. She returned to the post between 2019 and 2023.
