Sony began distributing a new beta version of the PlayStation 5 software this week that brings significant advances in interface customization options. The update introduces features requested by the community for years, such as showcase mode, background slideshow and recent games widget.

The update is only available to participants in the system’s beta program, accessible directly from the console’s settings. The new features are now active for those who received the invitation.

Among the main new features is Modo Vitrine, which temporarily removes widgets from the welcome screen when the console is inactive.

Showcase mode automatically clears the home screen

The feature can be activated with a minimum of 15 seconds of inactivity. Quando active, all widgets disappear and the background chosen by the user occupies the entire screen.

Players can still configure the display of game information or clock even in showcase mode. The function turns the home screen into a kind of customizable screensaver.

Slideshow lets you switch backgrounds automatically

Another important addition is Slideshow, which displays a sequence of images selected by the user. The images are chosen from albums created on the console itself.

The feature only works on the welcome screen, known as Welcome Hub. Automatic switching occurs at intervals defined by the player.

Widget shows time played and trophies from the last title

The new recent games widget displays detailed data from the last session. Entre information includes total time played, session duration and trophy progress.

The widget appears at the bottom of the welcome screen. Ele automatically updates whenever the player ends a match.

Features still have limitations in beta

Modo Vitrine only works when the cursor is positioned in the widget area. Quando the highlight is on other main menu icons, widgets remain visible.

Sony did not provide a date for the official release of the update. Normalmente, features tested in beta reach the public version within three months.

Community celebrates advances in personalization

The new features address recurring complaints since the launch of the PS5 in 2020. The lack of complete themes and advanced customization options was one of the main points criticized.

The arrival of animated funds in early 2025 had already been well received. The new functions significantly expand control over the appearance of the interface.

Sony keeps the system’s beta program open for registration. Participants receive early access to all new console software.
