Samsung announces the beta version of One UI 8.5 for Galaxy smartphones, introducing changes to the interface design that recall the Liquid Glass style of iOS 26 from Apple. The update focuses on more fluid and transparent visual elements, initially available for the Galaxy S25 series. The launch will take place on December 9, 2025, aiming to improve usability in the South Korean manufacturer’s native apps.

The beta starts at Estados Unidos, Reino Unido, Coreia of Sul and Alemanha, with expansion to Índia and Esses countries were selected for initial testing due to high volume of Galaxy users. The main motivation lies in the evolution of visual language, aligning with global trends towards more immersive interfaces.

The full schedule predicts the stable version in 2026, shortly after the debut of the Galaxy S26 line. Usuários from S25 can sign up for the beta program via the Samsung Members app.

Visual changes to the quick panel

The quick panel gains full customization, allowing you to rearrange toggles and sliders.

Blurred elements and sharper separators create a sense of depth, similar to frosted glass effects.

These modifications make it easier to quickly access settings without cluttering the screen.

Icons and apps with 3D effects

Samsung app icons receive a three-dimensional treatment, with subtle shadows that elevate screen elements.

The Calculadora app features buttons with a “pop top” effect, simulating tactile relief.

The Galeria incorporates transparencies in overlays, improving the viewing of images without distractions.

These visual touches extend to other apps, like Discador, with rounded, floating navigation bars.

Floating navigation in settings

Back buttons now float in settings and native apps, positioned for easy one-handed reach.

The search bar in the Arquivos My Files app appears at the bottom, with a grid layout for menus.

These adaptations prioritize ergonomics, reducing unnecessary movements during daily use.

Improved AI capabilities

The update integrates expanded Galaxy AI tools such as Photo Assist with continuous image editing.

Bixby gains understanding of complex commands, based on advanced processing models.

  • Quick Share speeds transfers between devices, with strong encryption for security.
  • Dynamic widgets adapt to content, such as alarms with weather backgrounds.
  • Support for audio broadcasts via Auracast allows voice sharing in close quarters.

These functionalities aim to integrate AI in a practical way, without requiring excessive manual interventions.

High security measures

Theft protection activates automatic locking in cases of loss, with failed authentication that locks the screen after invalid attempts.

Privacy controls provide clear insight into permissions, including auto-blurring of sensitive data in shared photos.

The Storage Share on the My Files allows cross-device access to files, with mandatory biometric authentication.

Clock customizations and reminders

The Relógio app receives a rounded interface with soft pastel colors, in line with the new visual standard.

Reminders integrates Galaxy AI for automatic suggestions based on synced calendars.

More fluid layouts avoid visual overload, making it easier to set alarms and timers.

These changes maintain consistency with the Galaxy ecosystem, including tablets and wearables.

Differences in relation to Material 3

While Google advances on Material 3 Expressive with general praise, Samsung chooses its own direction, prioritizing native apps.

Third-party apps, like those on Google, remain unchanged, creating contrast in the unified experience.

  • Unique 3D icons for Samsung avoid flat design prevalent in Android.
  • Transparency effects are limited to selected elements, avoiding initial excesses seen in rival betas.

Users notice greater cohesion in their own interfaces, but ask for harmony with the Android ecosystem.

Beta expansion and compatibility

The beta expands gradually, collecting feedback for refinements before the final release.

Eligible devices include Galaxy S25, S24, and recent foldable models, with OTA updates.

Internal tests have taken place since September 2025, confirming stability on various hardware.

Integration with Galaxy S26

One UI 8.5 debuts on the S26 line, with optimizations for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processors.

Cameras support new AI modes, in line with the renewed interface design.

Prototypes indicate redesigned camera island, compatible with 25W Qi2 charging.
