LPG tanker explosion on A1 blocks stretch between Caianello and Capua with serious damage

A serious incident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, on the A1 Milano-Napoli motorway. Dois heavy vehicles collided shortly after 5pm, at kilometer 709, towards Nápoles, close to the Teano Ovest service area. One of the trucks was transporting LPG and, upon impact, it caught fire, resulting in an explosion.

The explosion caused damage to the carreggiata and the adjacent service area. Não casualties were recorded among road users, thanks to the immediate evacuation of nearby autogrills.

The section between Caianello and Capua was closed in both directions to allow for safety operations.

  • Drivers coming from Roma towards Nápoles must exit at Cassino and re-enter at Capua.
  • Anyone coming from Nápoles to Roma must exit at Santa Maria Capua Vetere and re-enter at Caianello.
  • For long journeys, an alternative route is suggested via the A24, A25, A14 and A16.
