Striker Guilherme, aged 30, was officially announced as a new reinforcement for Houston Dynamo, from Major League Soccer, this Tuesday (13). The Texan club closed the permanent transfer with Santos and signed a contract with the Brazilian valid until the end of the 2027-28 season, with the possibility of automatic extension until 2028-29.

The negotiation places Guilherme in the status of Designated Player, a category that allows for higher salaries and demonstrates Dynamo’s commitment to increasing offensive power for the next MLS season.

Official announcement and contract conditions

Houston Dynamo released an official statement confirming the arrival of the Brazilian player. The club highlighted the athlete’s versatility, capable of playing as a center forward or on the attacking sides.

Guilherme will occupy one of the three Designated Player spots available on the squad and will have a salary compatible with the main salary category in the North American league.

Passage numbers through Santos

During two full seasons at Peixe (2024 and 2025), Guilherme played 94 official matches. The striker scored 27 goals and contributed 19 assists, becoming an important player in the offensive sector.

He was the team’s top scorer in the 2025 Campeonato Paulista, with 10 goals, and helped the club escape relegation in the Brasileirão with decisive goals in the final rounds of the competition.

Transaction value and planning of Santos

Santos will receive around US$2 million (approximately R$11 million at current prices) for the definitive sale of the player. The value will be important for the São Paulo club, which seeks to balance its finances and plans reinforcements for next season.

The operation was concluded after weeks of negotiations, with the final value higher than the first proposal presented by the North American team.

Houston Dynamo’s objectives with hiring

The Houston Dynamo coach sees Guilherme as a central piece in the team’s offensive recovery project. The team finished the 2025 season with just 43 goals in the Conferência Oeste, registering one of the worst attacks in the league.

The management is betting on the Brazilian’s experience in South American competitions to improve performance in 2026, the year in which MLS seeks greater competitiveness before the Copa of the Mundo of 2026.

Player’s international baggage

Guilherme has already played abroad on two occasions: he defended Al-Faisaly, from Arábia Saudita, and Al Dhafra, from Emirados Árabes Unidos. Essas experiences make it easier for Estados Unidos to adapt to football.

The athlete also went through Grêmio, Botafogo and Fortaleza in Brasil, accumulating regional titles and participation in continental competitions.

Next steps for the transfer

Guilherme is expected to disembark in Houston in the next few days to undergo medical examinations and be officially presented to the press. The expectation is that the player will participate in the club’s pre-season from the end of January.

Houston Dynamo begins the 2026 MLS season in February, with the aim of returning to the playoffs after being absent in the previous edition.
