Toyota is preparing one of the most significant updates for its most successful SUV globally, the RAV4. The sixth generation of the model is in an advanced stage of development and promises to break with the current design, adopting a more aggressive visual identity and focusing exclusively on hybrid engines to maintain leadership in one of the most competitive segments of the automotive market. The Japanese manufacturer’s strategy is clear: completely electrify its sports utility vehicle line, reinforcing its commitment to energy efficiency and reducing emissions.

Information from international markets indicates that the official launch is scheduled for the end of 2025, with sales starting gradually in the main global markets throughout the following year. Construído on an improved version of the TNGA platform (Toyota

A design inspired by the ‘hammerhead shark’ concept

The main change of the new Toyota RAV4 will be in the aesthetics, which will be directly inspired by the “hammerhead” design language, already seen in recent launches of the brand, such as the Prius and the new generation C-HR. The transformation will be most evident at the front, which will abandon the conventional headlights for a “C” shaped optical assembly, with the LED daytime running lights at the top and the main projectors positioned lower, giving the SUV a more robust and technological appearance. Essa approach not only modernizes the vehicle, but also optimizes aerodynamics, contributing to the efficiency of the hybrid package.

The body lines will become more angular and sculpted, abandoning the smooth curves of the current generation for a profile that conveys more strength and presence on the road. The rear will also undergo a complete redesign, with the expectation of LED taillights interconnected by a horizontal bar, a design trend that expands the perception of width and sophistication. The improved TNGA platform will allow for a slightly longer wheelbase and shorter front and rear overhangs, resulting in more directional stability and better use of cabin space, without compromising agility in urban maneuvers.

Technological interior with a focus on comfort

Inside, the cabin of the new RAV4 will undergo a complete modernization, in line with the latest releases of the Toyota. The dashboard will be dominated by a new multimedia center with a touch screen that can reach 14 inches in the most equipped versions. The operating system will be faster and more intuitive, offering wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as over-the-air updates. The instrument panel will also be fully digital, with a high-resolution screen that will allow the driver to customize the information displayed, from navigation data to the operation of the hybrid system.

Toyota will also invest in improving the quality of materials used in finishing, with more soft-touch surfaces, brushed metal details and new covering options for the seats. Ergonomics was another point of attention, with a new layout of controls to facilitate access and operation while driving. The center console will be redesigned to offer more storage space and a more efficient induction cell phone charger. Graças to optimize the platform, space for rear seat passengers and trunk capacity are expected to be competitive, reinforcing the family vocation of the SUV.

Exclusively hybrid and more efficient engine

One of the most strategic decisions for the sixth generation of the RAV4 is the exclusive offering of hybrid engines in most global markets. The main system should be an evolution of the current set, which combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle combustion engine with electric motors. The expectation is that the combined power will surpass the 226 horsepower of the current version, providing more vigorous acceleration and more direct responses, at the same time that fuel consumption efficiency will be improved.

In addition to the conventional hybrid version (HEV), the Toyota will continue to offer an Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant, which will feature a larger capacity battery. Essa configuration will allow a range in pure electric mode of more than 100 kilometers, ideal for daily urban use without pollutant emissions. The system’s energy management will be optimized to ensure seamless transitions between the electric and combustion engines, providing a smooth and quiet driving experience. Para specific markets, the Toyota may have versions with front or all-wheel drive (AWD), the latter using an additional electric motor on the rear axle to improve traction in low-grip conditions.

Improved security with new Toyota Safety Sense

Safety will continue to be a key pillar in the development of the RAV4. The SUV will come equipped with the latest version of the Toyota Safety Sense package, a set of driver assistance technologies that will receive important updates. The pre-collision system will have its detection capacity expanded, identifying pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists with greater precision, even at intersections or in low light conditions. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) will operate more smoothly in heavy traffic and will include a cornering speed adjustment function based on data from the navigation system.

Other features, such as the lane keeping assistant and the traffic sign recognition system, will also be improved. The new RAV4 is expected to include a high-definition 360-degree camera and more advanced parking sensors to make maneuvering in tight spaces easier. The structure reinforced by the TNGA platform, combined with multiple airbags, will guarantee a high level of passive protection for all occupants, positioning the model to obtain maximum ratings in the most rigorous global safety tests.

Versions and positioning in the global market

To meet different consumer profiles, Toyota plans a diverse range of versions for the new RAV4. Modelos like the “Adventure” and “Woodland” are expected to be retained, offering more rugged appeal and improved off-road capability, with mixed-use tires, raised suspension and specific driving modes for low-grip terrain. On the other hand, versions like the “Limited” or “Z” will focus on luxury and technology, with all comfort and convenience features available.

With this complete renewal, the Toyota seeks to strengthen the RAV4’s position as one of the best-selling SUVs in the world, facing strong competitors such as the Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson. The combination of a bold design, technological interior, exclusively hybrid powertrain and a cutting-edge safety package aims to consolidate its leadership and attract a new generation of consumers who value efficiency, reliability and innovation.
