An emergency operation was launched on the night of Saturday, February 22, after a technical failure paralyzed one of the elevators of the famous broadcasting and observation tower in the Japanese capital. Cerca than twenty visitors were trapped inside the equipment during the descent, requiring the immediate mobilization of local authorities to guarantee the group’s safety and coordinate the evacuation.
The incident was recorded by authorities around 8:30 pm local time, in the neighborhood of Sumida, where the structure is located. According to preliminary information, the vertical transport stopped at a height of approximately 30 meters from the ground, preventing the occupants from leaving and triggering the tourist complex’s crisis protocols to resolve the mechanical problem.

Mobilization of relief teams
Units from Departamento of Polícia Metropolitana and Corpo of Bombeiros quickly arrived on scene to manage the situation and begin safe evacuation procedures. Communication with passengers was established by officers, who confirmed the absence of injuries and monitored the health status of those involved while technical maneuvers were prepared by specialized teams.
The tourist attraction’s management collaborated directly with security forces, providing technical support to unlock the system with the utmost caution. The main focus of the operation was on the physical integrity of visitors and the agility of disembarking, avoiding additional risks during the mechanical intervention necessary to bring the cabin to ground level.
Protocols and investigation of causes
Although failures of this nature are considered rare in high-end infrastructure such as the Japanese tower, the event triggered a rigorous review of maintenance systems. A detailed investigation will be carried out to identify the exact origin of the breakdown, aiming to prevent new occurrences and ensure the reliability of vertical transport for the thousands of tourists who visit the site daily.
