Gaming device manufacturer Anbernic has officially expanded its hardware portfolio with the launch of the RG477V, a new portable console that takes advantage of the nostalgia of the vertical format. The device seeks to meet the demand of enthusiasts who prefer the classic 90s design, similar to the Game Boy, but who demand enough performance to run titles from more advanced generations. Diferente From previous models that prioritized only aesthetics, this device integrates modern components capable of running complex systems.
The main focus of the launch is to offer a hybrid experience that combines traditional portability with the processing capacity of past generation desktop consoles. The company highlights that the product was developed to fill a gap in the market, where vertical devices often lacked the raw power for high-level emulation. As a result, the new model positions itself as a robust tool for both collectors and players seeking technical fidelity on the go.
Technical specifications and visual quality
At the heart of the RG477V is the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, a chipset manufactured using a 4 nanometer process that represents a significant leap compared to direct competitors. The component operates with eight cores, reaching speeds of up to 3.35 GHz, and works in conjunction with an Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. Essa configuration was selected specifically to ensure smooth running of heavy libraries, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 2 and Wii U games, while maintaining stable frame rates.
For viewing, the console adopts a 4.7-inch screen with LTPS In-Cell technology and a resolution of 1280×960 pixels. The choice for a 4:3 aspect ratio is strategic, aiming for native reproduction of old games without distortions or excessive black bars. The panel also offers a refresh rate of 120
- MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor optimized for high-performance emulation.
- 4.7-inch screen with 4:3 aspect ratio, ideal for rendering classic games.
- Active cooling system to maintain thermal stability during long sessions.
- UFS internal storage expandable via microSD card up to 2TB.
Ergonomics and control features
The construction of the device marks an evolution in the brand’s industrial design, abandoning the purely plastic casings of entry-level models in favor of a more rigid and durable structure. Ergonomics have been adjusted to accommodate extended gaming sessions, with a balanced weight distribution that prevents hand fatigue common with vertical devices. The laminated glass front panel protects the display and gives the device a premium finish.
The controls received special attention with the inclusion of analog joysticks equipped with Hall effect sensors. Essa technology uses magnetic fields to record movements, eliminating internal physical contact and, consequently, the problem of “drift” (involuntary deviation) over time. On the back, the console features four additional trigger buttons, essential for gameplay in modern titles that require more commands than the original retro handhelds offered.
Autonomy and operating system
Power management is supported by a 5300 mAh battery, designed to offer up to seven hours of continuous use, depending on the intensity of processing required by the software. The device supports 27W fast charging via the USB-C port, allowing the user to quickly return to activity. The active cooling system, with an internal fan, acts to dissipate the heat generated by the high-performance chipset, preventing a drop in performance due to overheating.
The RG477V leaves the factory running Android 14, which guarantees native compatibility with a wide range of popular emulators, such as Dolphin and NetherSX2. The operating system interface has been adapted to facilitate navigation through physical controls, also allowing access to game streaming applications and other multimedia features of the Google ecosystem. RAM memory options vary between 8 GB and 12 GB, using the fast LPDDR5 standard.
Launch and competitiveness in the sector
The console hits the global market with a suggested price of around US$229 (approximately R$1,300 in direct conversion, without taxes), positioning itself in the premium intermediate portable segment. The first units are scheduled for delivery to consumers in the first quarter of 2026, with two finishing options: a textured matte black version and another in classic gray, which directly refers to the portable consoles of the 80s and 90s.
With this launch, Anbernic intensifies the competition in the advanced emulation niche, competing directly with brands such as Ayaneo and Retroid. Analistas from the sector point out that the combination of a nostalgic vertical format with hardware capable of running systems from the sixth and seventh generations of consoles can attract an audience that, until then, had to choose between portability and performance.
